nappypants 1,237
I’ve just used one to help with draining a blocked washing machine… anyone have any other alternative uses for adult nappies other than the obvious (i.e. underwear and toilet facilities)? Nesta 56
I have also used a nappy when manually draining my wasing machine. I had a leaky dishwasher once where I put a nappy underneath the door to catch the leaks while I figured out where they were coming from. Whenever I do any work on our bathroom sinks, a nappy goes on the floor, just in case. I save defective/unwanted nappies/pads for use in the garden. I soak them in a bucket of water for a few minutes, then rip them apart and mix the pulp/SAP with compost to make potting soil that retains water and releases it back to the plants slowly. nappypants 1 Quote Link to comment

I was going to say - I've seen quite a few people use the crystals from the padding to help keep plants hydrated, especially if going away for a while with nobody to water house plants etc. Tentacool 1 Quote Link to comment
TheLoneRanger 313
It's funny I found this right now. I'm currently using a bed pad to protect my carpet from super glue. Building a piece of artwork for a friend, and I've got glue and fumes everywhere. Tentacool and nappypants 1 1 Quote Link to comment

Regarding the point on defective/unwanted nappies… agree there, I struggle to allow myself to waste a wearable high quality nappy for an alternative purpose! Tentacool 1 Quote Link to comment
Cubby 0
I agree with the gardening thing. I’ve been doing this for years now because its a lot cheaper to buy a few packs of low grade medical diapers at the thrift store for pulp/SAP than it is to buy crystals at the garden shop for transplanting bushes and they work just as well. Occasionally I will even find like a pack of niche diapers like Northshore or ABU while there for me. Quote Link to comment
323014025 28
I have used torn up diapers as padding in a a project in university, it was the cheapest bulking material we could get our hands on at 2 am. Quote Link to comment
Stanley79 615
Bulk up a play's monster character (for instance Star Trek's 13 of 11 or a Halloween costume). Extend protecting surfaces from glue and paint to home chemistry experiments. A chemistry professor one place I worked had laboratory bench tops protected by bed pads. Crafters use one brand's (I forget which) absorbent material as artificial snow. As acoustically absorbent material to keep mechanical noise inside machinery enclosures. Quote Link to comment
nappypants 1,237
Has anyone ever used an adult nappy for an alternative purpose and someone not in the know has said “Where the hell did you get that from?” I guess some people probably wouldn’t even register what it was… Quote Link to comment
