MojiQue Low-Level Challenge Playthrough

Recommended Posts

Welcome to my lowest-level challenge playthrough of MojiQue! If you've been on here long enough, you've almost certainly heard of MojiQue before, as it's an RPG Maker game fully dedicated to Omorashi, with multiple game mechanics and story beats alike centered around it. (Here's the download page for anyone who wants more info on the game.)

I tried out the game myself a while back, and while I did have a lot of fun with it, and would recommend it to anyone on this site into RPG games, I did find it to be a bit too easy for the most part, as I only ever got a game over to the game's optional superbosses, not any of the battles in the main story.

So that got me thinking, how difficult would a lowest-level run of MojiQue go? The game gives you the ability to avoid all random encounters, as well as plenty of ways to grow your characters without traditional level-ups, so it seemed pretty possible to beat it at a very low level. I love speedruns and challenge runs of games in general (and have way too much time on my hands), so I figured I may as well give it a shot myself, even if I'm rather inexperienced in these kinds of challenge runs myself.

So yeah, the challenge here is pretty simple: We'll be attempting to finish the main story of MojiQue at the lowest possible level of EXP possible. This means that we'll only be doing story-required battles, and will be avoiding all random encounters unless absolutely necessary. However, as long as our party's levels are not increased, everything else is on the table. This mainly refers to the many stat-increasing items that we'll be picking up as we go through the game, which raise your stats but don't raise your level.

As for this thread itself, I'll be documenting the playthrough here in text, screenshots, and the occasional video captured via OBS for boss fights. Aside from the fact that I don't want to provide voiced commentary for personal reasons, Youtube doesn't usually play too well with a game like MojiQue, and watching someone just walk around the overworld and read dialogue for hours would probably end up being pretty boring anyway, lol. You could also see it as a throwback to how Let's Plays got their start on forums in the 2000's 😉

Without further ado, let's get into the game!

After a quick opening cutscene, we find one of our 4 heroines stranded in a strange forest...1436404472_Screenshot2021-03-0301-52-06.png.804f452537e50671c88e69a44a150b54.png

And immediately, we're thrust into battle!

1410002385_Screenshot2021-03-0301-53-14.png.b6cf0479b8ba73ec317800888fab43c8.png

Thankfully for us, though, this battle's non-interactive, so we won't be gaining any EXP just yet 😛

2094376903_Screenshot2021-03-0301-53-49.png.88b04c2eb0f803b0bfb04e4573b67f0f.png

Anyway, after a few more non-interactive battles, we switch perspectives to the guy we actually control on the overworld, Reguma, but he has no fighting skills nor omorashi content, so we won't be paying him too much attention for a lot of this playthrough.58304561_Screenshot2021-03-0302-00-25.png.6f02628790570ab80e1b92bed754f6a0.png

Regardless, after walking around for a bit, we reunite with the first of our classmates (and by extension, party members), Hamuko, who we've already spent some time with via the opening cutscenes. I'll talk a bit more about her stats later, as we quickly find ourselves in the first actual battle of the game, establishing the dynamic of Reguma acting as the tactician for his classmates in battle.538741081_Screenshot2021-03-0302-11-14.png.31550f57937249fdb9900b28803e6e39.png431649909_Screenshot2021-03-0302-12-21.png.2bedf4e81ae68cd6fb449bb89965863d.png

After three more mandatory tutorial battles, we enter into a fairly lengthy tutorial cutscene, where a small town's general store clerk introduces us to some of the game's non-battling features.

461492431_Screenshot2021-03-0302-27-17.png.675e63bcb7e945868f01069b0e9fc0cf.png

Meanwhile, Hamuko introduces us to... one of the game's other important features :tohrusmug:846923955_Screenshot2021-03-0302-27-52.png.70e9bd6f1637b9549938439ba1183171.png

Regardless, now that we've gone through the game's first mandatory Omo scene, we've unlocked a few features, like money, healing items, and the menu, meaning we can finally take a look at Hamuko's status screen:

76264439_Screenshot2021-03-0302-38-30.png.c9395324efa09856e98487f9ed1bf79e.png

As you can see, the game rather helpfully shows us each characters' growth rates for when they level up on the status screen, and Hamuko here has some pretty balanced and practical stat growths, as is fitting for the party member we start with. However, for all intents and purposes, we'll be training Hamuko up to be the tank of the group, since she has by far the highest defense growth in the game, and we'll rather quickly run into a character with better strength and HP growths pretty soon. Because of this, all defense-raising items will go to her (at least for now), and when we eventually unlock the ability to class change, we'll be looking for a class to raise that defense stat as high as possible. If you're wondering why we need a tank in particular, defense in MojiQue doesn't just play into how much damage you take, but how much you can give too, since counterattacks's strength and frequency are both determined by defense. Counterattacks also just generally deal more damage than standard attacks and even skills with the right build, so they'll be important for this run.

Anyway, after a quick bit of backtracking through the forest, Reguma stops us and says a couple lines about enemy monsters:

1068919313_Screenshot2021-03-0302-49-56.png.4eed64561a997499ef7871ff377b6d13.png

Right you are, Reguma!

1820653596_Screenshot2021-03-0302-50-05.png.a9b17cec0c4ce4c68bc9bbd3f7dba068.png

And with that, we might not be dealing with random encounters for the rest of the game, and we're only at level 1. Let's see how long that'll hold true for...

Anyway, after a quick and rather uneventful trek through some woods and roads, we reach a nearby port town, where we're given both our first task as adventurers:

1475613785_Screenshot2021-03-0303-04-15.png.3fdf2b342e3508a1dfc827e7e4d9c87d.png

As well as our second party member, Nyanko:

51042745_Screenshot2021-03-0303-03-38.png.662421bf62a46b8a51ea616cb593e88c.png1240008821_Screenshot2021-03-0303-03-57.png.a96bfef4c92acd45d4af40d39dbc4780.png

You can guess what her general personality is 😛

In the meantime, let's take a look at her stats and growths:1409336043_Screenshot2021-03-0303-08-47.png.d6c41e83a5e0add6197e65de39fe9cac.png

As you can see, Nyanko is also a fairly straightforward character stat-wise. She has the best HP and Strength growths in the game, a decent defense growth, and pretty bad finesse and agility stats. Unlike Defense, Finesse, and Agility, there are no secondary effects for Strength in this game, so Nyanko basically just hits things hard, but can take a few hits herself as well. Once we gain the ability to class change, we'll be looking for a class with a lot of HP that relies mostly on strength to dish out damage.

And with all that, we enter the first dungeon of the game, Dabu Cavern. As you may expect, there are no encounters until the very end, where we run into the game's first boss...

Alright, here's the video for the first boss fight with this big praying mantis enemy. (Maybe inspired by Secret of Mana?) As you can see, we're already fairly under-leveled; I don't think I had to heal at all on my first playthrough of this game, but this time around Hamuko needed a fair amount of healing to stay alive.

2021-03-03 03-26-21.mkv

Afterwards, winning the fight gave both of our girls a level-up, which thankfully gave Nyanko the first of her skills, which is just a simple kick that does a bit more damage than the normal attack. Not the most useful skill in the world, but I'll take what I can get. Hamuko still can't use any skills, but again, we'll take what we can get.

Regardless, with that fight over, we've now gotten half of our main party together and completed the first dungeon of the game, all while the main characters remain level 3 or under.

121494227_Screenshot2021-03-0303-40-07.png.e87469657550886b7b46ff643f8ec698.png

And the same goes for me. Ideally, each of these updates will reach the next boss, but I don't think I'll go much further than that for most of them (especially since just this first boss video brought me up to 2/3rds of OmoOrg's file limit). So with that, I'll see you all again sometime in the next couple days.

In the meantime...

NEXT TIME ON MOJIQUE: Our heroes will trek through a perilous mountain, visit a mysterious church, and fight off waves of bandits as they search for their fellow classmates in this strange new world! Will they survive? Probably, because they can just turn off encounters! OR CAN THEY??? (They can.)

LAST TIME ON MOJIQUE: Our heroes... started the game, and not that much happened. We did, however, defeat the first of many bosses we'll be fighting throughout this run and assemble half of our main party. Plot-wise, we're searching for a map, or just any clues about the fantasy world we've found ourselves in, and any of our classmates who might also have arrived in this world. With all that said, let's get back into the run.

Alright, picking up where we left off, we're on our way over to Castle Town, and the associated St. Yuria's Church right by it, as the woman we helped in our first quest gave us a "ritual permit," to use there, and that's all our party has to work with. To get to Castle Town, we first have to go over Mt. Mahai, which luckily has a rail car service.

This rail car service, is of course, closed, thanks to a local bandit gang stealing the coal. As a result, we have to make a perilous trip over the mountains...

Except we'll of course be turning off random encounters, so the only things for us here are a few stat-boosting items, and luckily, all of the ones I get here boost HP or Defense, so we can give them to Hamuko and Nyanko. Oh, and there's also this parcel of cash that the rail station master gave us to deliver to a girl named Sharusharu:

1109940956_Screenshot2021-03-1323-33-45.thumb.png.8c8d7d2b9ba727d56211461c2af5ddc3.png

And with that, we make it into Caste Town without a hitch.746618774_Screenshot2021-03-1323-51-08.thumb.png.663d777212860387f585c35f4ad5a913.png2089111012_Screenshot2021-03-1323-51-18.thumb.png.cd16e5f0022cb0e69d5527bfde40f6fc.png

We locate Sharusharu pretty quickly (it helps that she's one of the rare NPCs with a portrait), and give her the parcel. 2030510805_Screenshot2021-03-1400-00-38.thumb.png.f82f8dfaf076d8d3fb80d9a715ef93be.png276773462_Screenshot2021-03-1400-00-53.thumb.png.162dbc0e902725fd2a07e3348596ba7d.png1408643470_Screenshot2021-03-1400-00-59.thumb.png.74130f28f722d31d0ebcbfd65f232ae6.png

After some relaxed teatime with her, Sharusharu lets us know a bit more about the blessing ritual we'll be undergoing:304650012_Screenshot2021-03-1400-03-42.thumb.png.14179a14445da4eca9f08393b6f2d4f0.png1917205644_Screenshot2021-03-1400-03-47.thumb.png.566708646f1595646cabb60b603aad5b.png444687374_Screenshot2021-03-1400-03-53.thumb.png.fc7523e8fae0bb6e98a7aaff04cd378b.png1543636484_Screenshot2021-03-1400-04-02.thumb.png.79c013116e2e16855e47742976980d56.png594401612_Screenshot2021-03-1400-04-09.thumb.png.942133a87bef223335a08d663d642a5f.png1470370445_Screenshot2021-03-1400-04-21.thumb.png.3a2dd600cf69ce656a6f3e04688e619e.png

And with that exposition given knowledge acquired, we make our way over to St. Yuria's.

...But not before Hamuko's first (voluntary) bathroom break for this playthrough. :nepsmug:

156801216_Screenshot2021-03-1400-13-27.thumb.png.12406c74023349be9128f0e04c7c0cf8.png999456481_Screenshot2021-03-1400-13-50.thumb.png.a67a64867e058899dcf712ac2fab2a4f.png

You know, it says something about this desperation-focused game that it's taken us over an hour to get our first real bit of desperation during gameplay. On the bright side, that makes it easier to argue that this playthrough is strictly for research purposes. :tohrusmug:

After that, we head over to St. Yuria's for the blessing ritual. 1231131389_Screenshot2021-03-1400-44-05.thumb.png.fd86cb11de282357e621166efe49028f.png1463215548_Screenshot2021-03-1400-44-11.thumb.png.c0dddf936b54572372183a21a682da70.png1846914468_Screenshot2021-03-1400-44-17.thumb.png.e833f27b5a8beb614f23640153547692.png411033011_Screenshot2021-03-1400-44-22.thumb.png.427f094f051e52b53383486de0411265.png2018399753_Screenshot2021-03-1400-48-09.thumb.png.cc56ddb752f47e11cef5c7298b1f632b.png

During the ceremony, the room is covered in a strange glow, and an ethereal voice speaks to our party, warning them of the dangers that this world is facing:1018355548_Screenshot2021-03-1400-52-06.thumb.png.bf8868d8bdc8a4f5c86f6793e9931d40.png1498755654_Screenshot2021-03-1400-52-11.thumb.png.0d0d991d2158a5a336ccb910a93de124.png994421451_Screenshot2021-03-1400-52-26.thumb.png.1aa54ee711ef1979f1335b2ed7a6e1e3.png485555130_Screenshot2021-03-1400-52-30.thumb.png.88a02502457768ca96fc9ed72bd758e3.png278121106_Screenshot2021-03-1400-52-35.thumb.png.462e0272f12a14c7676372b58bb0f923.png137522257_Screenshot2021-03-1400-52-38.thumb.png.4aef60b7ede94137904b9c7ed1924fb3.png1696906838_Screenshot2021-03-1400-53-01.thumb.png.0cd3b0bad76810532918183d8326465a.png2145770869_Screenshot2021-03-1400-53-05.thumb.png.ba4f98cc8ba92e7a814fa82faf835beb.png

After this somewhat cryptic message, the priest sheds some much-needed light on this world's lore and legends, and how the message relates to it:

551291992_Screenshot2021-03-1400-59-33.thumb.png.2dc5e83f8942cc41a640304fa245b967.png1996380209_Screenshot2021-03-1400-59-38.thumb.png.6ac7a0816fc71c0a080dafa4216d7fd4.png1945481384_Screenshot2021-03-1400-59-41.thumb.png.5467b4577387175082165a88c02deaad.png1196611404_Screenshot2021-03-1400-59-54.thumb.png.1e1090faaaf255064cd736025a7ecf2d.png988480224_Screenshot2021-03-1401-00-00.thumb.png.83e4c70b406b881d5af4351cad8ffe2f.png420582607_Screenshot2021-03-1401-00-07.thumb.png.0d4073db7ccd4db5287d636e6ec50064.png1699718965_Screenshot2021-03-1401-00-20.thumb.png.615262e33de48685fc11d921e2b6cc28.png1629541848_Screenshot2021-03-1401-00-25.thumb.png.271b7c38467798189db1823a8c49570a.png

(I bet you didn't expect this much lore from an omorashi game, huh?)

Naturally, our party leader remains skeptical:

But the priest's story doesn't end there. He goes on to theorize that our party has been summoned to this world for a reason, that being to serve as the new Heavenly Maidens, and combat the rise in demons, which may include this "Duchess of Hellfire" herself.

1627254671_Screenshot2021-03-1401-03-09.thumb.png.2f82b73cde40c2cf77a60509c53de669.png720189851_Screenshot2021-03-1401-13-55.thumb.png.21eb088ef91683da8a6330983013b5b7.png1098961633_Screenshot2021-03-1401-13-59.thumb.png.05a9cdd9194a1ca1bc5c1e634baec06c.png1968669649_Screenshot2021-03-1401-14-05.thumb.png.42f7160e5519cbff17eff90f0eb18917.png542753293_Screenshot2021-03-1401-14-19.thumb.png.dd1fa3ffa5656b9c625c8a10cd52d749.png

Reactions among the party are, shall we say, mixed:

583979246_Screenshot2021-03-1401-16-05.thumb.png.3a144558eaf40e04480bc50fa8aea03a.png456536189_Screenshot2021-03-1401-16-50.thumb.png.3f0268846327c51433b35e0fd703d9bd.png

And just when we thought the exposition wasn't over, an important figure from the castle introduces himself:2098995562_Screenshot2021-03-1401-22-58.thumb.png.f0047c4474387e1758d3c061984043cd.png944201446_Screenshot2021-03-1401-23-12.thumb.png.9da6d00539640594caa1333b9b84ae47.png1039417405_Screenshot2021-03-1401-23-17.thumb.png.7ace2555ef84f2684367c88f7ab7f134.png11453026_Screenshot2021-03-1401-24-16.thumb.png.aa53eb8dc108c4ee22454e6e2a3618bf.png525114993_Screenshot2021-03-1401-24-20.thumb.png.8c71dfb08d3b9be0304b6d6230edd9aa.png1632082164_Screenshot2021-03-1401-24-24.thumb.png.c07ef112cac38e42943b92dc99d1519b.png

However, as soon as those formalities are done, a soldier from the castle rushes in bearing bad news:

And with that, our next goal has been firmly set in stone: To infiltrate the bandit hideout, and rescue the two hostages.

Naturally, with an urgent goal in mind and a divine message in our heads, we leave this sacred building...

...With another bathroom break. :yurismug:

Phew, I thought there would be more gameplay (and actual commentary from myself) this time around, but I forgot just how much lore there is to fill in at the start of the game. I might be reaching the file size limit soon just by summing up these cutscenes so you guys don't get lost, lol. Because of that, I'll split this session up into two parts. Rest assured, we'll reach another boss fight and get a new party member before the night's over, though. 👍

Alright, after some late-night snacks, I'm right back into the game. As Hamuko so helpfully reminds us, both of the hostages we're looking for were taken at the nearby Lake Oshiru, and so we go there now to see if we can find any clues.

826942946_Screenshot2021-03-1401-45-11.thumb.png.fa73ff6da5878d1de2af5a5e22df1ed4.png519031290_Screenshot2021-03-1401-45-15.thumb.png.0078971c1dade33c76a330ab6291a26d.png

After looking around for a second, we find a Glowing Thing™️, and this being a video game, it's one of the clues we're looking for. Upon interacting with it, the party realizes that they've stumbled upon a student handbook, belonging to one of their classmates, with some directions on where we can find these bandits:

163351828_Screenshot2021-03-1403-28-40.thumb.png.75d8e76aaf3f7cce576e10307a590340.png1105101334_Screenshot2021-03-1403-28-46.thumb.png.1343afd157d8a69c8d13c0f629ef63ae.png89062746_Screenshot2021-03-1403-28-51.thumb.png.e8aeb4e9f25ee56ccae39ccba280fbc7.png875431989_Screenshot2021-03-1403-29-04.thumb.png.20e24e79275bb3cc96655d9491f73225.png1215410833_Screenshot2021-03-1403-29-08.thumb.png.f75a3f7e684b9ac3390df883d9736c31.png1189491370_Screenshot2021-03-1403-29-21.thumb.png.7cf1330faef50fd683e3360bc6e6b978.png1785467968_Screenshot2021-03-1403-29-26.thumb.png.bb4d6f801f68bbbdde80a3a23fd3e299.png353745564_Screenshot2021-03-1403-29-30.thumb.png.77d933ccacd6d40b674ba20e2def21f2.png

Upon hearing those directions, we go just a little north of Castle Town to enter the Lost Woods Lost Forest, and after a bit of deliberation among the party, we venture into the forest. As will usually be the case going forward, our biggest enemy here isn't, well, the enemies, but the puzzles. This forest has one involving a set of logs in the shape of a clock face, all of which have a switch on them we need to press:1763841023_Screenshot2021-03-1403-40-37.thumb.png.830073e8808df3b9f25d006833b77bb9.png

Luckily, there are a couple hints inscribed on some rocks nearby:1090539102_Screenshot2021-03-1403-42-58.thumb.png.a613bb35a28211b4423807436c97d67c.png1539360192_Screenshot2021-03-1403-43-25.thumb.png.af7d1088e96102d18f0133869567b50e.png

And with the help of those hints, we can press all the switches on the logs in the right order, and that raises a log bridge over some nearby waters, allowing us to cross. A pretty simple and straightforward puzzle overall, but an effective one for this early stage in the game.

After trekking a bit further into the forest, we finally get to meet the girl we read about earlier, and our third party member, Tomocchi. She's introduced to us in a rather fitting way for this game: :nepsmug:

102577326_Screenshot2021-03-1403-47-04.thumb.png.0ff988345f2a2ea35513b5e15934195f.png1549404456_Screenshot2021-03-1403-47-18.thumb.png.f3cb56553b6bf0e10153fb12b486057c.png415696649_Screenshot2021-03-1403-47-24.thumb.png.e691bdd6bc4a8b0b7c8e3e1c0d7fe00b.png1692709531_Screenshot2021-03-1403-47-34.thumb.png.fa22bd12d808909fe79fd868107f3def.png

After a bit of catching up, Tomocchi explains how she escaped from the bandits:1847275870_Screenshot2021-03-1403-48-31.thumb.png.1d4d221806c2baf0792bbc3d1435341b.png2039354387_Screenshot2021-03-1403-48-37.thumb.png.f3c1aa9af62af76d09374f63e46a046e.png1065268030_Screenshot2021-03-1403-48-40.thumb.png.ace1163b4bf327a67e2db48b86401bf1.png1151218361_Screenshot2021-03-1403-48-45.thumb.png.bc21019905282804561e13052016a2a3.png466194686_Screenshot2021-03-1403-48-49.thumb.png.7b9d2fcbdc77d3d543a5845fd271032b.png192643766_Screenshot2021-03-1403-48-54.thumb.png.74e81d8fb4046a581434ff1f538310f3.png

Reguma then puts two-and-two together, and says that if Tomocchi could fend off some of the bandits, then she must be one of the new Heavenly Maidens too:

1564618393_Screenshot2021-03-1403-49-37.thumb.png.798d9f7d8e45c66395ae6b8099ee96e5.png1535427753_Screenshot2021-03-1403-49-43.thumb.png.b6325a34268f85c16167d384d7d0fe8b.png453073724_Screenshot2021-03-1403-49-51.thumb.png.cf2ed0cac43e9428045d891205d50833.png590442719_Screenshot2021-03-1403-50-02.thumb.png.4d2b4d304a9a47cf9e2e968d22df2fcf.png1232197234_Screenshot2021-03-1403-50-06.thumb.png.dc40c1ecb59d25fca0f64756745e386b.png

...Without going into the implications of that sentence, the party wraps up this introduction, and the smug and spunky Tomocchi has joined our party. And while her first bit of optional dialogue immediately makes a strong impression,

784769906_Screenshot2021-03-1403-56-39.thumb.png.fb91f94d735981202817a29fac7ca64e.png1928720199_Screenshot2021-03-1403-56-42.thumb.png.125c11c496b24fa340a578c58d29ff67.png

we should probably focus more on what the status screen shows us about her:657604789_Screenshot2021-03-1404-19-36.thumb.png.32fc3699e06b23866cfcf7cc965381e0.png

If Hamuko can be called the tank of this game's party, Tomocchi is the sweeper; she's the fastest character in the game, boasts the second-highest finesse stat, and pretty solid strength to round her stats out. However, her defense growth is mediocre, and her defense growth is outright bad. As you can see, she joins the party at level 5, and Hamuko already has a defense stat 3 points higher than Tomocchi's at level 2. As a result, we'll really want to focus on those agility and finesse stats, but not leave strength by the wayside once we can upgrade her to a new class.

Speaking of her level, joining at level 5 means that Tomocchi already comes with both of the skills that she can learn in her basic class, one of which (Booty Bash) is the first Tec skill in the game. To quickly explain, tec skills are attacks that run off of your finesse stat as opposed to your strength stat, and that enemies block with only half of their defense stat. To balance them out, they tend to have fairly low power, but in the hands of a maiden with enough finesse, they can really come in handy against enemies with a lot of defense. Essentially, they're magic attacks, and you could call the Finesse stat a combination of magic and skill stats from most RPGs, since it both powers an alternate type of attack and controls your critical hit rate.

With all that said, we won't be using Tomocchi in battle for a little bit, since we first have to deal with another puzzle, this one being... basically the same thing as the last one, but with rocks instead of tree stumps, and only having us press some of the switches instead of all of them. Invigorating.

After quickly solving that puzzle, we make it to the bandits' lair, where our valiant heroes find a secret entrance...!1683168607_Screenshot2021-03-1404-27-55.thumb.png.ebec72d0542b8e25ad8c9cf95b85da95.png635844854_Screenshot2021-03-1404-27-59.thumb.png.b1d09971284e15f971040e5223d33c39.png2079666979_Screenshot2021-03-1404-28-04.thumb.png.d24affc418b4fafcb48e2c9ec84c4617.png1667724579_Screenshot2021-03-1404-28-08.thumb.png.a8ccb0e9e6297a003b330937d6451108.png

...only to fall for an obvious trap.

This leads to a rather... interesting predicament for Nyanko, in an omorashi scene that's stuck with me ever since I first saw it in the demo. (Specifically in @hiderisan's original playthrough; I never played the demo for myself, lol.) Something about just how flustered Nyanko gets as she tries to delay and deny the inevitable has always just been adorable.

Newly added since the days of the demo, in a lot of these mandatory omo scenes (referred to as "pee events" by the game) you can actually choose which action one of the girls will take in response to her desperate situation.764750644_Screenshot2021-03-1404-40-23.thumb.png.f54c60695b9c800283c46a51410f48d9.png

Personally though, I could only ever see this scene as ending with Nyanko wetting herself out of sheer stubbornness and pride; it just fits her too well, especially at this early stage in the game, haha.2139072745_Screenshot2021-03-1404-40-39.thumb.png.f16d02f409e143e9ffcfe033ff325644.png638338846_Screenshot2021-03-1404-40-44.thumb.png.ef15c518bbd1545995b5ca654fbdb55e.png53907795_Screenshot2021-03-1404-40-48.thumb.png.b784ce696565255014a609d0c79ab6f4.png715038997_Screenshot2021-03-1404-41-05.thumb.png.6bb4c74d7ffc83075590a7eb03a5fe9b.png762880875_Screenshot2021-03-1404-41-19.thumb.png.dfa595f69a7d4530b4ceefe96021273c.png506559019_Screenshot2021-03-1404-41-25.thumb.png.b5f8fceb6447a93bd356d00846a1eedf.png1038693957_Screenshot2021-03-1404-41-53.thumb.png.574512e5f180ab64664971ea3f8fc9f3.png1381615662_Screenshot2021-03-1404-42-15.thumb.png.bba663088540aacd051074c62faaa3f8.png756096768_Screenshot2021-03-1404-44-02.thumb.png.19cbd802305d406a1d80cc41ec2cb9f2.png2053881024_Screenshot2021-03-1404-44-07.thumb.png.5da74b52efff10b37fb5eab1ec1cbfea.png

My love for this scene is probably also helped by the fact that I've always thought the dialogue when Nyanko and Reguma meet up with Hamuko and Tomocchi again was both adorable and hilarious:1871996642_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-05.thumb.png.26413dcbc52567f5ad9f527833498ebd.png2066800813_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-11.thumb.png.b82b08e33b64076a7c03bc0f06c2f6de.png1957815058_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-15.thumb.png.849622ac60f83fc5d7cb642bdf7088c4.png360409380_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-20.thumb.png.243a610e9d874feb2235b68e6d62bc6c.png122059566_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-26.thumb.png.34f7799e5e48872918c8f07647434fdc.png1852252678_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-31.thumb.png.b46bff5a832aee989b3e7b1a58d3b28d.png175590757_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-36.thumb.png.ed80d104c04f4c46cb43bddc4592b708.png1930285932_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-39.thumb.png.1dbb9f08460a3bd2c6d2cb0e1331e72d.png500476491_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-51.thumb.png.48a587684fba67ef25cea559593dabfb.png1737058008_Screenshot2021-03-1404-46-54.thumb.png.0042f276d675e57fb58942868edd8fc8.png

Anyway, uh, I've apparently gushed (no pun intended) about this scene for long enough that I've run out of file space for screencaps, meaning that I'll have to split this section up into yet another part, and probably won't get to upload it here until tomorrow. Whoops. :blobcoldsweat:

So uh, in the meantime...

NEXT TIME ON MOJIQUE: Our heroes will do the thing DW said they would last time, and take out the leader of the bandit gang! Fun Fact: You'll get two videos for the price of one next time since there's actually another required battle before the boss fight and one video file would probably go past the file limit! That definitely makes up for this delay!

Actually wait, I don't think I've passed a daily file limit yet, and I'm already up way too late anyway, so let's wrap this up.

Something that I forgot to mention earlier is that immediately after Nyanko's omo scene, our party was freed from their prison cells by a mysterious off-screen shooter, who blasted the locks off their cells with some incredible aim:2113946809_Screenshot2021-03-1404-45-07.thumb.png.d9de406faef548cf1c12383310cba7ac.png353307864_Screenshot2021-03-1404-45-12.thumb.png.bd785c730b1989c5a6cc75ff721720a9.png1594026923_Screenshot2021-03-1404-45-17.thumb.png.ea092764d283060b7490ed6f8a9d81f1.png882146200_Screenshot2021-03-1404-45-23.thumb.png.64776490e824a09395ff1f3e66d25755.png1400344533_Screenshot2021-03-1404-45-27.thumb.png.8b47aceca40413a4d6fe4fdff1f4c05e.png811216137_Screenshot2021-03-1404-45-31.thumb.png.e8a5ffb11a5a75cea44cb62425632383.png1423227122_Screenshot2021-03-1404-45-35.thumb.png.1d8bee9be38c94b4eb1d81a88a5f6fc0.png

I mention all this now because it'll be important later in the game 👀

Anyway, immediately after we break out of our cells, we're immediately confronted by some bandits in one of the two mandatory battles with the generic bandits we have before we fight their leader:

2021-03-14 05-43-40.mkv

As you can see, this is a pretty simple and painless fight with two generics, and it ended up being quite beneficial to us, seeing as Hamuko finally has at least one skill to work with. (Speaking of skills, as you can see here, I said Tomocchi comes with both of hers already, but she actually only has one to start with. She'll learn the next one in just a level or two, though.)

The next fight should ideally also be pretty simple, but we have a bit of a problem here with how much I've forced Hamuko to hold it:1668426582_Screenshot2021-03-1405-47-58.thumb.png.f43ff966c921d8f9384acc7da331c251.png1222506845_Screenshot2021-03-1405-48-03.thumb.png.d18ebe293a2f89541675dc1e921b16ba.png1289471372_Screenshot2021-03-1405-48-06.thumb.png.9b1dade7f550587cac8d30d95b490b3d.png

As you can see, she's starting to get pretty desperate, (around 80-90% full bladder according to the game's meter) but she won't use the only bathroom available now. Hopefully this won't be too much of a problem...

Somehow this next fight ended up being too big to fit into this reply, so it looks like we'll have two more, and then we'll be done.

Alright, here we are: The second real boss fight of the game, against the bandit leader, complete with a little introduction for her in the battle itself.

It's a good thing they have that little dialogue there during the start of the battle too, because including more than like 2 screencaps will almost certainly go over the file limit. No joke, I did this fight 4 times, slightly lowered my OBS video settings, (which I don't think made a difference) and then got lucky and finished the fight in the fastest amount of time yet, and I was still only 2MB away from the file limit, lol.

Also, fun fact about this fight: For the first three times I did it, Hamuko somehow never wet herself despite being past 100% bladder fullness, but for the last two "takes" I did of it, it happened both times, so if you wanted to see that happen, we now have at least one recorded instance of it in this playthrough. 2021-03-14 06-42-56.mkv

So, because of the file limit, I only have room to include one screencap from around the time of this boss fight, so I'll choose to go with the one that's the most funny out-of-context:

326243886_Screenshot2021-03-1406-49-51.png.020fd55321b45260e124663c3dfd5018.png

Speaking of technical limitations, sorry if you noticed a bit of lag in the three videos I uploaded here tonight; I think my laptop's just as tired as I am, lol.

Anyway, to keep you all updated on where we are plot-wise, we beat the bandit leader, rescued Sharusharu, and on our way back to her house in the Castle Town, we ran into the Knight Commander, ready to storm the bandit hideout himself, but promptly found out we already did all the work (only kind of in this playthrough though, what with the whole no encounters thing 😛) and was so impressed he invited us to the castle. After that, we had a wholesome little goodbye with Sharusharu, who unfortunately has already had most of her screentime until the postgame. 😔

So yeah, that seems like a nice enough note to end on. Anyway, time to pass out now. Or maybe not cause the sun will probably rise in like a half an hour. It's kinda hard to say, lol.

NEXT TIME ON MOJIQUE: Our heroes go to a royal feast, and befriend an important ally in the form of the kingdom's princess. However, the feast isn't without its' fair share of embarrassments, especially for poor Tomocchi! Will our heavenly maidens end up finding another one of their classmates and filling out the main 4-person party of this game? Will they learn how to class change so that I can develop strategies other than "hit them hard??" I don't remember because my brain is fried!

LAST TIME ON MOJIQUE: Our heroes learned about an ancient prophecy, rescued another one of their classmates, and took down a local bandit gang wreaking havoc on the area, as a result, they're invited to a grand feast in the royal castle. In game terms, we got our third party member, and took down the second boss, all with our party members at level 6 or below.

Or as one of our party members would put it...

You know, sometimes I wonder if it's worth doing these recaps when talking with the girls in their sub-menu will have them comment on the current situation (unless they're distracted by their bladders, of course). I have fun doing them, though, so I might as well keep 'em going. :reimuwink:

Regardless, after entering the castle, we're quickly taken to the throne room to meet the princess of this unnamed kingdom

1870092539_Screenshot2021-03-1823-38-20.png.34165936df2d27ffc0eb722a35927812.png2038888663_Screenshot2021-03-1823-41-16.png.980749bc03d03da484842c55568b72c8.png520920119_Screenshot2021-03-1823-41-04.png.9e5fec764ffc2ad5977b924838960e93.png

After that quick little introduction, the princess questions our party on whether or not they could really be the new Heavenly Maidens, leading her to bring up a place called the "Heavenly Palace," which confuses the party. The princess promptly gives us the exposition we need:

And with that, we've been given a pretty clear goal from the princess, and a pretty clear dungeon to conquer in the process. However...

2121927720_Screenshot2021-03-1823-48-34.png.06252e57f16c8ef0721e595310ff76e9.png482718904_Screenshot2021-03-1823-48-38.png.1935c617f17e71dc665a475e85fbe266.png

...we have another cutscene or two to go through before that. At least our party's excited:1882282893_Screenshot2021-03-1823-48-49.png.b393cc6ee45514ee72fdcb9de188d19d.png

If you're wondering why I singled out Tomocchi to sum up the reaction of the party, it's because she ends up getting a little too into the banquet laid out for us:

Yeah, I think you all can guess where this is going. :nepsmug:

And if you couldn't guess where this was going, yeah, it ends in wet sheets for Tomocchi after an omo scene taking place in a dream she has. Yeah, I kinda glossed over that one, but I can't spoil everything for you guys, right? :reimuwink:829791619_Screenshot2021-03-1900-15-52.png.53d558eea4186c843ecf1e223f0d461b.png1418136038_Screenshot2021-03-1900-16-09.png.73a94cbece1a48a7ef2d53a6f72d0e9d.png1252454694_Screenshot2021-03-1900-16-15.png.b919d72fa9da1de39749b3ffec82f0f7.png249461068_Screenshot2021-03-1900-16-20.png.ce85a14f3ca1be09c1294efc7392233a.png2067807512_Screenshot2021-03-1900-16-24.png.495d648fcece59fb0ea7ca15e3512e46.png447791502_Screenshot2021-03-1900-16-34.png.9b7c4b3baec6b94520375d31e79999ac.png383334804_Screenshot2021-03-1900-16-44.png.21c6428963c67d7e85255f23e85fa81c.png1537577628_Screenshot2021-03-1900-16-57.png.064a902f81ea1811773b950019c11175.png151618503_Screenshot2021-03-1900-17-03.png.539d33d1ec82a05c9fd4b0ad649568af.png1769815671_Screenshot2021-03-1900-17-07.png.3af74b86a5f77970f9575436d3610595.png1534057994_Screenshot2021-03-1900-17-41.png.14265b535754c2133ea50f1b2bd3f41d.png1557401440_Screenshot2021-03-1900-17-45.png.e3ce2173d4b9caad73eb568922dcc450.png

Regardless, after some cleaning up, we return to the throne room, where first we learn something rather... unexpected about the princess:

2069142551_Screenshot2021-03-1900-25-09.png.468957c33ec573e0a075088918a90a0c.png1712858143_Screenshot2021-03-1900-25-13.png.f5705493fc2e6a0dc59e8ad553d6b89f.png2141504179_Screenshot2021-03-1900-25-26.png.94ca523856c2f0b506d3c3c5d9cab514.png1526838327_Screenshot2021-03-1900-25-30.png.ea196ff7041da8e7073264df1ce5573d.png181418626_Screenshot2021-03-1900-25-34.png.b392ad3d7853f484609c78aaa4cfdec9.png1173473358_Screenshot2021-03-1900-25-44.png.93e3a7bff0977423b920d0e7497770f0.png

But after that, it's right back to business, and we're promptly given some directions to the Heavenly Palace, which we're told lies in the Westlands past the lake we visited earlier (Lake Oshiru), and through an underground tunnel. When this tunnel is mentioned, the Knight Commander gives us a stern warning as per usual:446595990_Screenshot2021-03-1900-27-00.png.ca9e28b1ce63fc12a69bea093fcd998d.png2128107803_Screenshot2021-03-1900-27-09.png.3bf14c875ced34ec169a6a2660b4ed4b.png

One which we'll be promptly ignoring, seeing as we'll just turn encounters off as always. :nepokay:

Before we set off for the Heavenly Palace, we're given free reign to explore the castle for a bit, and it's worth noting that Aoi Kurage gave a couple of the generic knights some pretty helpful dialogue, giving us both a little bit of backstory for the princess (doesn't mention her name, though), and some foreshadowing that we're not done with the bandit gang just yet.

680884964_Screenshot2021-03-1900-36-30.png.67686fe6274eb47ae304ac0aad327eb4.png469931197_Screenshot2021-03-1900-36-33.png.a7ddcfd09e3d3995400c4bfce2f9b326.png1477927788_Screenshot2021-03-1900-37-23.png.09142fa9e4ffd04d40a7d47375a7be51.png461888716_Screenshot2021-03-1900-37-28.png.961162790fe371b0a9d86e337f80bc84.png

It's little details like this that make me appreciate how much time and effort Aoi Kurage put into this game, seeing as he worked on it for like half a decade, and did almost everything himself, including music and dialogue.

Oh, and it's also worth noting that we had to take Tomocchi to the bathroom again just minutes after her first mandatory omo scene because the game's bladder meter doesn't take cutscenes into account. I don't blame Aoi Kurage for not programming that in, it's just funny to me.763811827_Screenshot2021-03-1900-49-07.png.3172c8bd9f90ced1b79cd8e9673664aa.png370588703_Screenshot2021-03-1900-49-11.png.56c8a368c7d797e2d26267b7380917dd.png2093054581_Screenshot2021-03-1900-49-28.png.f46e71cdf73f140ba3ddcac75201c4a8.png

Speaking of Tomocchi, immediately before entering that aforementioned underground tunnel, we get access to the map screen thanks to her being given the map we were trying to find earlier:

1026790597_Screenshot2021-03-1900-55-24.png.16751fab9ad3ffceec3bfad3c169e9f2.png1790200408_Screenshot2021-03-1900-55-33.png.bc524f14ebcc52dd893dfd7afad22eaf.png1997158506_Screenshot2021-03-1900-55-44.png.6740f483e6d653ddf0c2cc26ef479e58.png740606212_Screenshot2021-03-1900-55-48.png.25fcfe267a9569b00b7269acc757b559.png791818078_Screenshot2021-03-1900-55-57.png.5bb57dee1af593b92eb2ace12da94cbd.png1438916453_Screenshot2021-03-1900-56-02.png.8d3dd621b52dc2f05053c07f9a527f5c.png637734569_Screenshot2021-03-1900-56-05.png.f024020e499055a64fac7026cd4796cc.png1190533384_Screenshot2021-03-1900-56-10.png.d6fb2b962ea1d71a28e874e21f2084ed.png1134954394_Screenshot2021-03-1900-56-13.png.c4d0b10e61a93342389c328a08218e26.png322878406_Screenshot2021-03-1900-56-25.png.adfb839f35803a2ea0bb03ff227cb25f.png

Not the biggest revelation, I know, but it's still worth mentioning, since it was kind of our first story lead, and it will still be useful, even if I don't mention it that often here, haha.

Regardless, after a quick trek through the tunnel, we find ourselves in a village near the Heavenly Palace:765216456_Screenshot2021-03-1901-06-38.png.38c76db89fd3cde8828a50f39fb553df.png509855897_Screenshot2021-03-1901-06-44.png.a0b9fb8fcb9ff13df8c635c1399b1a68.png

Of course, since we turned encounters off, we won't be needing to pick up any more items to prepare for the Heavenly Palace. However, as we walk through the village, we end up seeing something, or rather someone who will give us all the preparation we need standing on top of one of the village houses...

And with that, I think I've now uploaded enough screencaps to be creeping up on the file size limit, so I'll be splitting tonight's part in two once again.

And we're back.

Right away, we go into the house I showed earlier, and while inside some NPCs helpfully inform us of what the girl on the roof is doing:2074615511_Screenshot2021-03-1902-02-48.png.578feb06d2797da8d8634487f588f4a6.png70983327_Screenshot2021-03-1902-03-10.png.099a15af2e8a1906644458eb8f068a5b.png56370658_Screenshot2021-03-1902-03-14.png.49a4fd02c702c4fbc0d060d4e150e047.png2047906882_Screenshot2021-03-1902-03-17.png.39d4d4cc671b03071b04743a08d556c1.png

After going back outside, we see her fall from the roof, but thankfully she's unharmed. Plus, this lets our party see that this girl is in fact another one of our classmates:1427183348_Screenshot2021-03-1902-03-55.png.1c530693cd78bfb1945b576dc38a7bf2.png1618234861_Screenshot2021-03-1902-04-01.png.357cb21b9e9aaa601c158e81b38ae326.png406142776_Screenshot2021-03-1902-04-14.png.547789a81f47bbb0c97bb157df4a2a88.png433557760_Screenshot2021-03-1902-04-25.png.3d8b25a3bc672b966aa9ef9fd157d257.png1238490759_Screenshot2021-03-1902-04-31.png.de22624c1f9c852d82d0e1e495474047.png1597328671_Screenshot2021-03-1902-04-48.png.e1f7bcc80d89e11608b478024f2dbbc2.png379310074_Screenshot2021-03-1902-04-51.png.ba941bd6c37fab5e1df4be1018bbf3ae.png1484861259_Screenshot2021-03-1902-04-56.png.eb7eef5ab49f95306c431a8f6d9d7d5b.png850220721_Screenshot2021-03-1902-05-04.png.6d2bcfe27c1e3526657adf5ceb2f8c1f.png

And with that, we go inside and quickly catch Hime up to speed on the concept of the Heavenly Maidens and their ability to fight monsters, and while she's doubtful that she can do it, she joins the party soon enough:

Now, I tend to abridge these cutscenes a bit, but in this case, I skipped a few lines of dialogue in this scene, because I thought they'd make a nice segue into talking about Hime from a gameplay standpoint. See, after Hime says that she'll do her best, Reguma asks her why she was on the roof, which sparks this exchange:1904527046_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-12.png.4456254c22c8f84690ba9307ac3bc8d7.png262366491_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-16.png.0bcecd3780b654a3db1184823bd6e332.png1705545996_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-21.png.ee6a1431c11f582d6b0964dde5e08dd3.png135323304_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-25.png.0587bbaca478798f282c403f33d8a4ad.png2117142796_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-31.png.c5c1781896b4a94ae08ee501a9b69f17.png2096931113_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-34.png.195e66deab7357cf6685d458903544f3.png1652631370_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-39.png.aaec7c70f6d62dc18d103dc7fb8a5079.png566333810_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-43.png.a41e2614fbcbf4ad62638796de2db525.png1396708747_Screenshot2021-03-1902-11-50.png.822345718a711b874cf505ab10f4b55c.png

This idea of Hime being naturally talented at skill-heavy things, but coming up short in athletics actually translates into her stat spread really well, with her having the best finesse of anyone in the party, and a great HP growth as well, but mediocre strength, defense, and agility:

1763734167_Screenshot2021-03-1902-30-09.png.b231877f035cd53073c6472b342b55cb.png

I mentioned the Finesse stat and what it does earlier, but in case you forgot, Finesse in Mojique boosts your critical hit rate and powers Tec skills, which are attacks that hit enemies for only half their standard defense, but at the cost of them generally having lower power than strength-based skills. In a way, you could call it a combination of Magic and Skill stats from most RPGs. If that sounds broken, it certainly can be for enemies with high defense. Enemies with average or below-average defense will usually take more damage from Strength-based attacks. For this run where we're mostly only fighting bosses, though, yeah, it could end up being pretty broken, lol. Regardless, to sum this character profile up, I'd basically call Hime a Glass Cannon, and she's kind of the Black Mage of this game. Once we gain the ability to class change, we'll want to boost that Finesse stat as high as possible because of this.

While I'm explaining game mechanics here, I should mention that a new clerk has shown up at general stores alongside the two standard clerks with the red and blue hats. When we talk to her, she tells us about her store, and finally shows us one of the things those "Spirit Orbs" we've been collecting on the overworld can do:

2057972460_Screenshot2021-03-1902-43-18.png.8d2a89e45f99321cb1503c4d810b308c.png191885125_Screenshot2021-03-1902-44-22.png.f928ad12591e58e08767f3654a34b967.png1580965576_Screenshot2021-03-1902-44-26.png.8dc1e5bb5a3f76c90fea7429b5002ecf.png1555261029_Screenshot2021-03-1902-44-29.png.67f45ce7f20a330f6111db6a9667d28c.png1937184544_Screenshot2021-03-1902-44-34.png.88cc900d69e26808f0105a6b89a1a1e4.png639662157_Screenshot2021-03-1902-44-49.png.bae2569ecc9ce53e5d8d547912f199be.png

As you can see, her store gives us access to bonus art that you can buy with the spirit orbs. However, while you'd usually want to get these in a normal playthrough, for this one, spirit orbs are going to have a much more important role to play for us a little later on in the game, so we'll only be getting the face icons for now, since they are a pretty handy reference.

However, her store also has a second less flashy but more useful function to it, which is the ability to trade in spirit orbs for prizes:943681539_Screenshot2021-03-1902-50-41.png.9ad24fad21396ca80df6268a2d8a6f4b.png

The diuretics are pretty useless most of the time, however, the ability to get 1000 cash whenever you want, or 4 stat-boosting items is nothing to scoff at. As a result, I'll go ahead and get 4 stat-boosting items with one orb, and 2 of the face icons with the others we have.

Oh, and speaking of clerks, stat-boosting items, and spirit orbs, there's another new mechanic I should mention, which is this meter that now pops up in the top-left corner of the screen when buying items from the standard blue and red clerks:1611361435_Screenshot2021-03-1902-57-41.png.2c5c8d03a3ae51d55af62947a081a15a.png

When you buy items from these two, the meter goes up (more expensive items fill it up faster), and once its full, the clerks will throw in a little bonus for you, with one of the options being two random stat-boosting items. And while that is less than the bunny girl clerk will give us, it's an easier method of farming them, and both will probably end up being lifesavers for this run.

Anyway, with all that being said, we can now make our way over to the Heavenly Palace. Once inside, we immediately see a glowing pillar with words inscribed on it:204326804_Screenshot2021-03-1903-07-18.png.642eb2628dbbf7810bfc807ab99147b1.png

The "trials" it mentions are the rooms tucked away in the corners of this room. You might think that means there are four puzzle rooms here, but there are actually only two. The top-right room just has some money crystals laying around, and the top-left one has 4 levers in it, but we'll get back to that.

Let's start out with the bottom-right room, which is in my opinion the simpler one of the two:

231882961_Screenshot2021-03-1903-12-39.png.043ce350667f1e3169bc0f65101c325a.png1249608325_Screenshot2021-03-1903-15-40.png.4dac9464d906650e17c197deca211ffe.png

As you can see, this room has a bunch of statues sporadically placed throughout it, and you have to walk along a strict path to make sure that you never have your back facing towards one of the statues. Pretty straightforward but effective puzzle.

There's another puzzle in this area as well, where there are these 4 rows of 3 torches each:914519073_Screenshot2021-03-1903-19-06.png.0ecf42bfe0b8c9287015b89d0737f163.png

Followed by a room with 4 rows of 3 stone arches to walk through:897833734_Screenshot2021-03-1903-20-50.png.853c7c684a6473e17770fcff018c7fd3.png

The solution here isn't spelled out, but it's very easy to get nonetheless. You just have to walk through the arches in the same order as the torches: Middle->Left->Right->Left

And then there's the bottom-left room, where you find a big stone pillar surrounded by 4 columns:

2113043056_Screenshot2021-03-1903-24-27.png.a80b7804007b6174e6a9a12e2f632794.png

What this rather cryptic hint is telling us is that we need the four pillars to be three different heights, and once I say that it makes things clearer, but I'm not gonna lie, I was kinda stumped by this one on my first playthrough...1630357368_Screenshot2021-03-1903-27-23.png.0d0fb992fcf10c1d8c073f3f60ada838.png

...and that's because of this room with the four levers. The first time I played this, it took me the longest time to realize that the levers were there to control the pillars, so I spent like 15 minutes just mashing the space bar at the pillars themselves and wondering why nothing was happening, lol. But yeah, once that clicked, I realized that pulling the levers up would raise the columns, and pulling them down would lower them. Regardless, it doesn't help that the hint here isn't nearly as direct as the last one, since it's written in a first-person perspective.

However, the hint is actually a little more literal than you might think: it's from the pillar in the center's perspective. (I personally got it the other way around on my first playthrough, and assumed all the "I"s were the columns referring to themselves. Anyone else have that problem?) So what you do is raise the west column up, lower the east column down, and don't do anything to the north and south columns, giving you a layout that looks like this:1895138603_Screenshot2021-03-1903-34-00.png.705f3cb522e07f9d8bd89732bb51b0c0.png

Regardless, after clearing out the room with the columns, you go into this square room with two doors, each of which lead to one half of a good ol' sliding block puzzle:2115005079_Screenshot2021-03-1903-39-48.png.3bdb7c915977719b980565bca2cbb4f0.png378835263_Screenshot2021-03-1903-41-48.png.49603114fc6c278cf17c14fc2d310f0a.png2004213333_Screenshot2021-03-1903-41-33.png.28d0c152dd56b73639def92cbee697ac.png

And yeah, I don't think I really need to spell out the solution here when the layouts of this room are right there, haha.

And with that, we're able to overcome the "trials" and clear a path in the central room:1674544553_Screenshot2021-03-1903-49-52.png.e5a30457ccdd18f66077835289c839a1.png

And with that, we've conquered another dungeon, and can proceed onto our next boss fight...

Alright, here's the video for our third boss fight: 2021-03-19 04-08-11.mkv

As you can see, I was able to include the dialogue directly before and after the boss in the video, and I was able to do all that in way less space just by changing one setting on my OBS output, lol. As a result, this should hopefully be the standard going forward. Regardless, as you could see there, the boss was still very straightforward, and was mostly just me spamming one skill per character throughout. However, from this point on, fights should at the very least involve some elemental rock-paper-scissors, seeing as we'll soon gain the ability to class change, and use elemental skills as a result; that's what the scene of our party conversing with the original Heavenly Maiden was there to establish, and I think class changing will be unlocked pretty early on into our next session.

That being said, I might've stopped the recording a little too early regardless in this case, as right after the scene of our party talking to the original Heavenly Maiden, we immediately cut to the scene of the "Duchess of Hellfire" re-appearing in the human world, where we learn of her name, her two closest allies, and their dynamic:1250696686_Screenshot2021-03-1904-17-30.png.fb62240053af25d85d8f9b2748bc2d6a.png1843824291_Screenshot2021-03-1904-17-38.png.e0916a019d6bd3018ae4d9c4854c2fe9.png2113536765_Screenshot2021-03-1904-18-08.png.90b5f2dd05f6f9878c530915938c791a.png1936214473_Screenshot2021-03-1904-18-15.png.8686c3180bb8fa96805fe66dfed3f013.png1863431196_Screenshot2021-03-1904-18-19.png.09a2d01521a3e3d033afa60e5f2331f2.png1710380999_Screenshot2021-03-1904-18-23.png.3287fac7c74ab9fd5f1065ff52ef2c18.png446163608_Screenshot2021-03-1904-18-27.png.595f00a0a06426ea0bdda84dbc567d02.png517850596_Screenshot2021-03-1904-18-32.png.e06d79e7f8b1e427765f0120f96e6e49.png

We also see their disdain for the original Heavenly Maiden (who they refer to as "Nowah,") and that they have a base of operations on this world they're immediately planning on returning to.

And before the cutscene is over we also learn that, well, Carat isn't exactly the most threatening antagonist on her own:1173760668_Screenshot2021-03-1904-19-40.png.547a365225fd49fb38d2ef5bc60ab7e7.png1717629595_Screenshot2021-03-1904-19-45.png.a7b3c1cfccad34dcfe04cfbc0f5c3326.png310380317_Screenshot2021-03-1904-19-50.png.0fe5547f8a6c1bbf3a89059f118b7629.png

And with that, I think I'll bring tonight's session of Mojique to a close, especially since Class Changing is probably gonna bring about the single biggest block of text for this whole playthrough, and it's seemingly coming up pretty soon. Regardless, I think we've made some fairly good progress tonight, since I didn't really struggle much with that boss in spite of the party still being level 6-8, and since the main party is now fully together.

In the meantime...

NEXT TIME ON MOJIQUE: With the blessing of the Heavenly Maiden, our heroines should gain the power to class change, and as a result, finally turn this game into a real RPG! Other than that, I kinda forget what happens here other than regrouping with the princess and our party maybe running into Carat and co for the first time. BUT WILL THESE PREDICTIONS COME TRUE?!? STICK AROUND TO FIND OUT!

  • 2 weeks later...

LAST TIME ON MOJIQUE: As our heroes journeyed towards the Heavenly Palace to get their blessing from the original Heavenly Maiden, they reunited with another one of their lost classmates, and the 4th and final of the new generation of Heavenly Maidens: Hime! After working their way through the palace's many puzzles, they heard the voice of the original Heavenly Maiden once again, but the message was interrupted by the awakening of a demonic queen, the Duchess of Hellfire: Carat. ...However, we saw that she may not be as threatening as you may think. In gameplay terms, we got another party member, and defeated another boss; after defeating the boss, our party was told that they'll be able to "Develop their powers," meaning that the game's class change system will become available to us soon.

Or as Tomocchi would put it...

After that, Reguma gives the Princess a more clear and concise recap, which makes her put two-and-two together and realize that the tremors reported to her in the Northlands came from The Duchess of Hellfire's awakening. As a result, she rules that it's too dangerous for regular soldiers to investigate, and sends the 4 high-schoolers with bladder issues to take care of it instead:

Afterwards, the Princess explains that we'll have to travel to the icy Northlands by sea, and that we'll sail from the port town where we met Nyanko earlier in the game. Rather helpfully, the game introduces us to this little fuzzball here, who will instantly teleport us to the port town, saving us some backtracking

However, on the way over to the Northlands, our party runs into their most dangerous foe yet...

OUT OF ORDER TOILETS!!! *Insert spooky organ riff here*

As you might be able to guess from her reaction there, this is Hime's first mandatory omo scene. You see, the girls aren't completely out of options here:

And of course, if that's too embarrassing for our most shameless party member, you can guess how our most bashful would handle it:

1050232141_Screenshot2021-03-3020-54-33.png.293f3b8a7003cf31fea1ddfd9be69e7d.png

And well, she certainly tries to hold it, but I can't say she succeeds, at least with the choice I ended up going with:

1874377403_Screenshot2021-03-3021-00-22.png.02911db93020b252d657adc515e36d15.png1455946719_Screenshot2021-03-3021-00-31.png.d3256ed7fb284d5c0950cde9cdb489c6.png1067378451_Screenshot2021-03-3021-00-37.png.ec4e62f7d3294c6781cd4299090f33ec.png1661348753_Screenshot2021-03-3021-01-01.png.6309f73a424f31dba18477a4563962b9.png

What can I say, it seemed the most in-character for her :reimuwink:

Anyway, after this embarrassing sequence, our party ends up at the Northlands port town, ready for the scouting trip the princess assigned them. As we go through the Northlands' only two towns, there isn't much to report, except that we end up getting the other two face icons so we can check on the girls without pulling up the menu:613677121_Screenshot2021-03-3021-33-17.png.bb2ec3357a87e4eb5bf4f2581a70dbeb.png

Doesn't that look all nice and symmetrical?

After that, we continue north to get to the snowfields, only to be met with a gatekeeper who stops us:2075918025_Screenshot2021-03-3021-36-11.png.a8f739bc57d64761177919e6b58339e3.png526058959_Screenshot2021-03-3021-36-16.png.f9f6a109d1c399cbe140e18f5265946c.png451754502_Screenshot2021-03-3021-37-58.png.8b09377be5d18e18435c241cc6d304ab.png1148355634_Screenshot2021-03-3021-38-01.png.15692a9cb1c75e394743243064e3c70e.png651889387_Screenshot2021-03-3021-38-11.png.019ead61d3bf7a5b81f181f777a3d633.png

Of course, we explain who we are, and the jurisdiction we've been given by the Knight Commander, but the gatekeeper turns this artificial roadblock into a very artificial roadblock with this bit of info:

2056969350_Screenshot2021-03-3021-38-35.png.5b9a91dbc4b133551f38e8b986bbd1c5.png432133098_Screenshot2021-03-3021-38-39.png.22f162a69c19da6fe04700e8cd30c8ff.png1230554436_Screenshot2021-03-3021-38-43.png.5543b53d55fddc5696d1fcc88967e8ff.png1221808423_Screenshot2021-03-3021-38-52.png.8bf82b7d1302785dd3f3e01ccf0f75a8.png896366055_Screenshot2021-03-3021-38-56.png.e5d1ad0a187a43aadc3522947df235b1.png794976982_Screenshot2021-03-3021-39-03.png.326b38a4707cf459a4556d5b1ab1d67d.png997821874_Screenshot2021-03-3021-39-07.png.8ba9f25288fba6d1a5611ca8f1e7d70f.png

With that info in mind, our party leader asks where we can find the SDU commander:

And with that we head towards another dungeon, and perhaps another boss fight? 👀

Seeing as the game decides to raise the stakes a bit before we head into the cave, it seems pretty likely:

However, after a not-so-perilous trek through this perilous cave, it turns out that, no, there isn't a boss fight here, just the aforementioned Viola, the SDU recruit who got lost and stuck in the icy cavern:

However, while there isn't a boss fight to be had in this corner of the cave, there is still some danger to our party in the form of...

When the icicles inevitably fall from the noise our party makes, everyone seemingly makes it out unscathed, however...

Anyway, with the girl saved and the foreshadowing out of the way, we go back to the SDU HQ, where Viola and the SDU Commander both express their gratitude, meaning that we've now been granted access to the snowfields:

However, to Viola, a simple thanks isn't enough, and an idea pops into her head:

The item in question she brings back is a set of four pendants, which she says can "protect any human who wears them from calamity, with the Power of the Angels." So of course, our party accepts the gift, and after putting the pendants on, the girls let us know in a very subtle way that they've unlocked some kind of new ability:

We unlocked the ability to class change!

All we gotta do now is head downstairs and talk to an NPC to give each of our 4 heroines distinct fighting styles and abilities...

And we'll do that after a short intermission!

Link to comment

Well, that "short little intermission" ended up taking over an hour, so we're gonna end tonight by building our team, rather than taking on a boss, since I'd like to wrap things up a bit earlier than usual.

Regardless, once we make our way downstairs and talk to the nun, she'll give us the dialogue options of "class change," and "class change tutorial," with the tutorial letting you ask her the following questions:

2043256128_Screenshot2021-03-3100-11-11.png.a9f6ea8240f95d085c0079f403dc63df.png

Here's her answer for "What is a class?" is pretty self-explanatory, telling us that there are 7 classes in total (not counting the "Normal" class you start with, where the girls fight bare-handed in their school uniforms), and that each has different skills and stat spreads.

Here's the info she gives for "about class levels":

2054436712_Screenshot2021-03-3100-14-00.png.a684d6b4b1743c8da191db18f268cd1c.png1064345586_Screenshot2021-03-3100-14-08.png.616226219d18de5fa3d2396df95ce729.png651917108_Screenshot2021-03-3100-14-15.png.5ec5c698225066a372b9a7138f19449e.png1407595029_Screenshot2021-03-3100-14-20.png.16bc0195e8d1d5c8efcbc4167ff62427.png

That last text box is kinda vague, but I think what she means is that once you reach class level 9, each class level you gain will simply give you more stats to re-allocate as you'd like. That second one could also come in a lot of handy, seeing as we're almost-exclusively fighting bosses this playthrough. It's actually a mechanic I forgot about on my first playthrough, so I can't say for sure exactly how useful it'll be, but here's hoping, lol.

The only other one of the nun's explanations I'll directly show is the one for "I want to pick another class," since she gives something of a non-answer for "Which classes are recommended?":

763249650_Screenshot2021-03-3100-20-29.png.5b59b53bdfd95409890aca60d1cc6a0c.png1519950966_Screenshot2021-03-3100-20-33.png.2a5f08ab4846f9ee2075aa5dfb6c67c9.png
This will be important to keep in mind, since even class EXP could end up becoming a pretty scarce resource, I've been internally debating whether or not I should raise the girls' class levels up to 9, or simply go up to 5, and have them switch to a backup class in case a boss ends up wiping the floor with me. Either way, I'll list backup classes that I have in mind for each of the girls later.

With all that being said, let's move on to the 7 classes themselves, as exemplified by Hamuko's status screens for them, and with some additional commentary from me:

1. Fighter

822594877_Screenshot2021-03-3100-40-04.png.8857325e9d12f49e092a192a7a8d2d36.png

As you can see, the Fighter class has a really simple stat spread, with the second-highest HP, Strength, and Defense stats in the game. It's basically just a heightened version of Nyanko's standard stat spread, however, there are a few things holding this class from truly being something special. Firstly, the class description states that Fighters can use "fire and water skills," with an s, but it actually only gets one of each, and for some reason, the water attack is a tec skill, so it works off the Fighter's very low Finesse stat, rather than their abundant Strength, giving them really poor elemental coverage as a result. The other three skills Fighters get are just strong non-elemental attacks, one of which hits all enemies, which is nice and reliable, but nothing special. The second problem with the Fighter class is that it doesn't actually have the highest strength in the game, the later Thanatos class out-classes it in both Strength and Defense, making it preferable in most situations.

2. Hualong

2100309713_Screenshot2021-03-3100-40-09.png.375ee8f52466af5b59080254297da547.png

As you can see, the Hualong class is probably one of the most solid in the game. It covers two of the game's 4 elements (and gains a non-elemental attack as well for additional coverage), has above-average options for attacking with both Strength and Finesse, and has a great stat spread, with defense being the only one decreased, and all of the other stats being above-average (3rd-highest strength, 3rd-highest agility, and part of a tie for 3rd-highest finesse), and while it doesn't have the best base stats in any one stat, much of the classes that technically outclass it in one area end up being more situational in most others.

3. Tropical

1057466298_Screenshot2021-03-3100-40-13.png.10c960de491c27c1a2ac890fa94404be.png

Tropical is a very strange class. It's tied for the second-lowest strength stat in the game with Cheerleader, but unlike that class, its' strength skills don't come with any helpful side effects, so there's really just no point to using the strength-based light skills it gains. It's also meant to be a finesse-based glass cannon like Paeon, but unlike that class, only covers one or two elements with its' finesse-based skills, and it's just outranked in HP, Defense, and especially Finesse with far less elemental coverage. It's not a terrible class overall, but it gets pretty outclassed (no pun intended :reimuwink:) by others from my personal experience.

4. Paeon

187566743_Screenshot2021-03-3100-40-17.png.84228f156263a8c039e63cc0f0b5acd7.png

As you can see, Paeon is an incredibly specialized class when it comes to stats. The only stats it doesn't decrease are Finesse and HP, and it doesn't even raise HP, so what's good about it? Well, for starters, it's one of only two classes in the game that can hit enemies with attacks of all elements, which is pretty important on its own, but doubly so when the other class in question is Cheerleader, which has a low Strength stat, but only attacks with Strength-based moves. Paeon's finesse stat is also just high enough that it actually still does sizable damage to most enemies, which I can't say for Kunoichi, the other class with all Finesse-based skills. Finally, even though the Paeon class is something of a glass cannon, it's worth noting that it has the highest HP stat of the Finesse-based classes, and eventually gains an HP-absorption when you fully level it up, allowing it to survive a bit longer than you might expect.

5. Thanatos

731456538_Screenshot2021-03-3100-40-21.png.cbc0cd825573bafb7a226615091fb8d1.png

If you just wanna see big numbers when you attack enemies, Thanatos is the class for you. It has the highest Strength and Defense of any class in the game, meaning it can do ridiculous damage with its' mix of powerful Strength-based skills and downright devastating Defense-based counterattacks. As a result, it's basically the tank of this game, since it moves slow, and isn't always the most graceful class, but damn is it worth it once your turn comes up. Granted, the class does have one notable weakness, which is that it has terrible elemental coverage, with all of its' attacks being either non-elemental or darkness-based. But when your base damage is the same as your party members' critical hits, that's not as big of a drawback as you might think.

6. Kunoichi

1620716787_Screenshot2021-03-3100-40-25.png.101b3b1a101979e15f6f48e582b2e6c0.png

Now, this class seems pretty decent on paper, but from my experience, it's probably the least useful in the game. For starters, its' stat spread is very mediocre; it has the highest Agility stat in the game, but outside of that, it's tied for the lowest HP stat with Tropical, shares the second-lowest Defense stat with Hualong and Paeon, and has extremely middle-of-the-road strength. Granted, it's also tied for third-highest Finesse stat out of all the classes, but it's not high enough to actually get much damage done like Paeon and Tropical, and it's not even better than Hualong, which can also attack with a higher Strength stat, and live longer with a higher HP stat. Beyond that, it also has the same terrible elemental coverage as Thanatos, but with only a fraction of the attacking power, since Finesse skills tend to have lower power on average than Strength skills, and since its' Finesse stat still isn't exceptional anyway. Basically, this class is a one-trick pony, and there's rarely a reason to use it over the others that the game has to offer.

7. Cheerleader

119778131_Screenshot2021-03-3100-40-29.png.3d7cd08cf1c2eaf880a2a34405174179.png

Looking at the Cheerleader bio page after playing through the game once is a weird experience, because it's the most unique class in the game, but the game doesn't communicate why at all in its' class summary, lol. Well, okay, it kind of hints at it with that first sentence, but I don't think most players would interpret "A class that brings smiles and sunshine to a brutal battlefield," to mean "The only class in the game that lets you buff your party members." Yes, you heard me right, it's the only support-based class in the game, but the game doesn't tell you that at all. Specifically, all of its' skills are strength-based attacks that hit all enemies for an elemental attack, and then buff one stat of all your corresponding party members. Because of the lowered Strength stat, those attacks will generally be on the weaker side, but stat buffs in battle are a useful skill to have in any RPG, even a pretty simple one like this, and this class is the only way to get those in this game. Plus, those strength attacks will at least chip away at all enemies at once, which itself is pretty useful. Beyond that, Cheerleaders can still get decent damage on enemies with their counterattacks, since those run off of their much higher Defense stat. So overall, while cheerleader is far from the most dominant class on the battlefield, it's still a valuable one to have around.

Alright, so with all that said, which characters will I be putting into which classes? Well, let's start with the most obvious of the bunch first, Hime:

As you can see, Hime's stat spread heavily favors Finesse and HP, with everything else being fairly mediocre if she wasn't two levels above the rest of the party. As a result, it's pretty easy to see that the Paeon class was basically made for her, and with its' ability to hit enemies in all their elemental weak points while halving their defense with its' Finesse attacks, it's a great one to have around.

Up next, let's look at Nyanko, who currently has the most polarized stat spread of the group:

As of now, Nyanko has the highest Strength and HP in the party by a fair amount, but the lowest Finesse and Agility. The RNG also seemingly hasn't been much in my favor, as she currently has the second-lowest Defense stat of the group. As I said earlier, you'd think that Fighter would be the obvious choice here, as it has the second-highest base stats in HP, Strength, and Defense. However, out of those three stats, I'd consider Strength and Defense to be more important, especially when no one in our party even has a strength stat over 30. And in Nyanko's case, I'm definitely willing to trade slightly lower HP, Finesse, and Agility to push those Strength and Defense stats to the max. As a result, I'll be choosing Thanatos for her instead:

Because Hamuko has the most balanced stats of the party, I'm planning on saving her for last, which means that Tomocchi will be our penultimate class change:607794519_Screenshot2021-03-3102-20-37.png.9894efc65eb6cbd28e286ad436aeca1e.png

Now, if you look at Tomocchi's stat growths and see that she naturally excels in Agility and Finesse, as well as her current stat spread, where you can see she has the lowest strength of the party, you'd think I'd want to go with Kunoichi or Tropical, but because of the issues I have with those classes, this is another case like Nyanko, where I'm hoping to both increase her two biggest strengths, and help bring one of her weaker stats to a better standard. In this case, I want Tomocchi to get even faster and more finessed, but also gain a viable strength stat, since her strength growth isn't half bad. In competitive Pokemon terms, I want her to be a mixed-attack sweeper, and no class does that better than Hualong.

And finally, we come to the girl in our party with the most balanced stats, and thus the one I find hardest to place into a specific archetype: Hamuko

Well, I say that Hamuko's stats are balanced, but really only partly, since Hime is two levels higher than everyone else and that skews everything a bit. As of now, Hamuko has the best Defense of the party and pretty solid HP as well, but she's kinda middling in everything else. Now, the obvious choice for Hamuko is probably Thanatos, but we already have one of those in our party, and that class's elemental coverage is bad enough that I don't think we need more than one here. Fighter also wouldn't be a bad choice, but Fighter doesn't really do anything better than other characters we have in our party; Nyanko will be a much better physical attacker, and Fighter's one useful elemental attack (the fire one) becomes redundant when Tomocchi will have strong physical fire skills she can use herself. With neither of those two seeming the most appealing, that only leaves one class left that'll increase Hamuko's best stats of Defense and HP while providing something unique to the party, that of course being Cheerleader:

Overall, I have confidence in this party setup, but I also won't be especially surprised if it goes terribly wrong and ends up costing me the run, which is why I'll have a backup save file at this part of the game right before the first class changes in case I just can't find my way around a late-game boss or something. If I were to reset, each girl's backup class at the moment would probably be Thanatos for Hamuko, Fighter for Nyanko, Tropical or Cheerleader for Tomocchi, and Hualong or Cheerleader for Hime. Those last two would be a bit harder to pick a class for imo, hence the multiple options for both.

And with all of that being said, here's the new status screens for our party:1554663346_Screenshot2021-03-3103-00-35.png.7fee550de1f6b9ab1eda491decbfd03b.png121875400_Screenshot2021-03-3103-00-39.png.7c9d6239fd6f462dac0ef1ccb9f2f723.png294293254_Screenshot2021-03-3103-00-45.png.74cea22fdd891cc193ed34d0f8ed1b52.png539753546_Screenshot2021-03-3103-00-48.png.e5d5868f6ae74a6a733cbadeb7d2cc50.png

And with that excessively-long character-building post behind us, we're about to get into the meat of this playthrough now, and I'll be calling it a night. Like I said, I would've like to get to a boss fight tonight, but this second part and the break between it ended up being longer than I planned, and I need sleep, lol. In return, I won't leave you guys hanging for another 2 weeks, how's that sound?

In the meantime...

NEXT TIME ON MOJIQUE: The Four Heavenly Maidens will do the thing they were assigned to do from the Princess this time, because DW went way too in-depth into frankly pretty basic game mechanics, because she lives for deep dives into dumb shit like this! Will the Maidens find Carat -The Duchess of Hellfire- and her demonic minions in the northern snowfields and defeat her in one fell swoop, or will that not happen because the game just became a real RPG and all the mechanics it just introduced would be wasted?! FIND OUT NEXT TIME!!
