Imouto Kitten 623
As I understand it, the explanation and solution for earworms with the most scientific concensus behind it is that the mind fixates on the song because the mind doesn't like to drop unfinished tasks, and thus listening to the song all the way through, or even just the closing part can make the mind shift thinking about the song froom the unfinished to finished category and stop thinking about it. Doesn't help that most people know the beginning, first verse, and chorus of many songs by heart but might not know the final verse/closing, preventing the mind from finishing the song on its own, and this technique seems likely to fail for songs designed to loop an indeterminate number of times instead of having a definite end(e.g. video game BGM). Janiseguchi 74
I usually just listen to the song that is stuck in my head and that helps. Though that is easier said than done when I don't have the song to listen to. Link to comment
