Behind the scenes pictures

That is such an interesting room shape, ideal for making movies. Did you rent this for the shoot? Or is this your set? I'd imagine that location scouting requires some sensitivity. All of what you've shared recently, btw, in that crazy forest, has been gorgeous location-wise (obvi, the talent is too).

Perhaps my eyes are failing, but that fixture that is high up and undiffused is on a fairly lightweight stand. I never thought about it until now, but I'd imagine that lighter gear is necessary for a shoot like this where presumably you don't have a G&E crew to haul around c-stands.

Also, I'm curious about the mixed lighting temps here (if they are mixed and I'm not just getting the blue from the window and warmth of the woodtones mixed up).

Thanks for indulging curious minds with these bts posts. Sorry if this post is too in the weeds.

All the locations we use in our shoots are rented, or loaned to us.  Often the property owners are involved in the kink community and allow me to use their location in exchange for some kind of trade (video, photo, web work).

As far as the light fixture goes, the one you referred to as "high up and undiffused," I am assuming you are referring to the light visible on the right hand side in the second picture?  It is actually on a pretty heavy duty light stand.  It may look like your typical, light weight light stand, but in reality it is about four times as large, much heavier, and uses compressed air internally to help make it easier to move the lights up and down.  Not visible in the picture, but there is a sandbag on one of the spreaders at the base of the light stand to make it more difficult to knock over.

The gear we use is quite heavy, especially the lighting equipment.  Though we do have a few c-stands, I always try to minimize the amount of gear we'll need.  Spending too much time with setting up limits the amount of time we can spend filming.  So I like to keep my lighting setups minimal, even though I have all manner of other gear, for an HD Wetting/HD Diapers shoot, I tend to cut corners to save time.  Still, for a big, full day shoot like the one these pictures are from, I do utilize some extra help- I typically run camera and direct, but we also have a sound person present who not only handles the boom and wireless mics, but also runs a field audio mixer and recorder, as we tend to shoot dual system and sync the audio in post.  In addition to the sound person, we'll have one or two other production assistants to help out and do all the small things to help keep us moving ahead, maximizing the time we are actually shooting.

The mixed lighting temps are intentional.  Unless I'm shooting news or documentary, I don't approach lighting from your standard 3-point lighting perspective.  Instead, I light in layers.  I ask myself "What is the foreground of this scene and what kind of light do I want on it? What is the background of the scene? What other layers here do I need to light?"  Typically, I like to use a complimentary color pallet, lighting the talent in warmer light and using a cooler hue on the background.  Here are some examples of this on frames taken straight from HD Wetting videos-

I think lighting this way really helps the models look good, and helps the foreground pop a lot more.  Also, I think the complimentary pallet helps make the scene more visually interesting.  Often, shooting at indoor locations, we have to deal with fairly plain, flat white walls.  This is fairly boring, visually, so adding some color can really add to the scene.

Hollywood does this too in their movies, though they often go a bit overboard.  Hollywood movies like to use an orange/teal complimentary stacking, but I don't like orange looking people.  I like to use more natural skin tones, but heavier blues in the background.  Anyway, here are some examples of how Hollywood does it-

@TVGuy Thanks for the extra details! Moving all that stuff around with just a few PAs is pretty impressive, as is your lighting design in general. Compressed air inside of a stand sounds rad, especially to someone who has had to personally adjust big fresnel lights. I know about the orange-teal thing, but I guess it just never occurred to me in thinking about it that way for porn vids. Your attention to detail, as always, is impressive, as is your willingness to share information with us.

It makes sense that the property owners would be in the kink scene themselves in some way, but do they ever balk at specific nature of your videos? Even kinky people (who aren't into pee play) might have some hesitation about letting models pee about their properties, even with a proliferation of puppy pads, plastic sheeting, and all-purpose cleaner.
