Peoples use of words

Recommended Posts

So I've noticed people use a varied vocabulary on this website. For example some people use more medical words like penis and vagina, while others go all out dumb, saying things like cock, pussy etc.

Is there a reason of your use of words?

Edit: I just realized I accidentally posted this in wetting experiences, any chance someone could move it to omorashi general? Thanks

Pending thread movement aside;

People use words they are comfortable with. And the reason they are comfortable with certain words is because that vocabulary has been inculcated into them by their particular society.

That is to say "we use the words people around us use."

Personally I usually just allude to body parts most the time; down there, between my legs, myself, himself, etc.

If I'm writing fiction I might have a character use a different vocabulary though.

First, it's phrenic. Second, as an actual medical professional, the last thing I want to do is talk in the bedroom like I talk at work. I don't think that makes me sound "dumb" at all.

Thank you for the correction. And yes, that moles sense, dumb was definitely not a good word to use.

Still hearing "cock" makes me a tad uncomfortable

I remember a long time ago seeing a watersports blog entry where the writer talked about this. On one hand are the medical terms, which are too cold and clinical for normal use. The outer part of a person's body is their "skin", not their epidermis. On the other are the slang words like cock and pussy, which make it sound dirty and scandalous. So what is a writer to do? The author of this blog used unconventional words for those parts. I forget the etymology of them, but she referred to the penis as the "lingam" and a girl's parts as the "yoni." To me it came off as weird and hippie-ish but it hit that connotation sweet spot of sounding like it was said neither by a doctor nor a porn star.

Barring that though, it comes down to what word fits best. I will generally err on the side of correct terms unless there's a reason to do otherwise, like in a non-omo story I'm writing about teenage boys. They say "dick" a lot, so I use dick. And as others have said a lot of word choice is avoiding repetition. It's especially hard with desperation and wetting because there are only so many ways to say "s/he had to pee really bad and peed on themselves."

He he...this is fun and we could go to pages and pages on this......I am training a group of Americans presently to understand English slang and London slang and we have many discussions about how English English differs from American English......and how words and their meanings change over time....and why they change, sometimes it can even be a simple thing like misunderstanding, just as the word 'fanny' became an English slang word  for pussy because, uneducated soldiers heard american soldiers say a girl had fallen on her fanny...they meant 'ass' (arse in English) the English guys thought they meant her pussy.    Just as Tea became that word as a bastardisation of Chai.....likewise  Beijing......was known for many years in the West as Peking.   'Pratt' was a also a slang word for an idiot in UK for several decades......I believe it originates with 'Pratfalls' in the American circus among 'clowns' and 'tumblers' as the art of falling on your ass in a safe and athletic manner.     I tend to use Americanisms that I know when writing to Americans on various forums as a form of politeness.     I have to admit that I have not seen the word 'Lingam' to describe a penis since the late 60's....since then it became 'Johnson'...which is why I am sure that Johnson is only used as a first name for a boy by ....I was going to say 'uneducated' people but maybe I should be kinder and say 'people with less experience of the world of names and words'    I,m sure the Parents of one of the UKs latest living holders of the Victoria Cross  LCPL Johnson Beharry (mixed race) had no idea....that in the USA a Johnson was a 'dick'........also a 'Dick' was used to describe a detective at one time...in USA and UK.   OK Americans...try this little puzzle......The other day I heard, on the radio, a couple of eastern european DJs who I am assuming also spoke English to some degree, discussing a recent song by an American female singer...........They were completely puzzled by 'why she hates his Mom and why his mom is not doing his washing for him', and why this would be in a song.???   So what song is it......??????   When you get it, listen to the song, listen to her accent and you will realise why people who do not speak English perfectly and do not have a lot of contact with Americans....are confused by cultural differences and strong accents.

And this isn't nearly the only one. The west renamed many major Asian cities suck as:

Beijing --> Peking

Guangzhou --> Canton

Mumbai --> Bombay

Belgaluru --> Bangalore

Mangaluru --> Mangalore

Kolkata --> Calcutta

Yangon --> Rangoon

etc etc

And of course Phuket --> Fuck it
