Apparently, the reason old Simpsons episodes are cropped to 16:9 on Disney+ is "the average consumer prefers wider content, as 4:3 is seen as a relic of the past and a waste of space on small phone screens", or something like that. I don't know who these people are that let bias overtake a desire to see content as it was originally designed, but it disgusts me. Aspect ratios should be kept the same as originally, no cropping or stretching, scaling should be integer scaling, pixels should be kept sharp, no filters, letterbox and pillarbox if you must to keep it correct. That's my philosophy.

On an unrelated note, my parent's TV/Blu-Ray player combo (they're by the same company, they share settings) is positively disgusting in this regard. 4:3 DVDs are stretched to 16:9, and the 4:3 display option in the settings crops the stretched image. It's vile.
