My observations about Japanese culture towards pee

Recommended Posts

A pretty long but interesting insight on the culture where omorashi came from.
I think it's strange how the tables on perversion are reversed, sort of like 'guilty until proven innocent'. So even if someone is naked and acting rudely it is US that's perverted if we see it? Oh my gosh.... But at least they have a better defense in dressing more freely (without ever being called a slut lol).

I've got a small question. You said before that Omorashi is considered bizarre and fit for geeks (and perverts), but alot of anime series (from Japan originally) elude to the fact that some of us are 'perverts' to some extent. In many ways this is to a lighter extent (so children can watch) but in other ways it's more directly. So I'm just wondering, how does Japanese society deal with this contradiction?

Anyway thanks for sharing your insight with Japanese society!

Wow, good report. The only thing is that I feel like omorashi itself wouldn't ever be a popular thing in any country, as most fetishes probably wouldn't be. Sex itself will always be seen as something you never really talk about to the open public if you can help it, so finding people with the same fetish as us isnt going to be that easy. Even in Japan.

AFAIK Japan is actually pretty repressed, sexually speaking.

Two other users in Japan on here(IForgotMyPassword and Kimiko3, who are husband and wife) said pretty much the same thing, Japan is a pretty conservative country and it's not really socially acceptable to mention such a thing in public.

And here I am to prove it!

I'm not a normal Japanese woman by any criteria, but I am a Japanese woman, so that's a good start!

Lots of women (including me) wear short skirts in Japan. I like on Okinawa where it's nice and warm, so I like letting air rush round my genitals! (With panties on, of course.) I like wearing my skirts at knee length, so I don't feel like I'm at risk of showing my panties all the time. It's easy to see women's panties if you want to, and since I'm bisexual I'm guilty of that sometimes. When I was a girl my mother taught me not to show my panties in public - it was hard work for her, because I used to be so careless with my skirt!

Women are usually quite open about needing to pee here. I certainly am - I always tell my friends/family if I need to go! I had some very bad experiences when I tried to silently hold it...(I peed myself on my first date with my husband).

Our friends are all very, very open about sex, and they know about our kinks. But Japanese society as a whole is really prudish and they wouldn't accept us at all if they knew. One time our children discovered us having really kinky sex (John tied me to a chair and forced me to orgasm against my will, and pee myself too). They didn't really know what was happening because they were only 6 years old, but they still told their classmates! After that, parents stopped letting their children come to play at our house! (Except my friend Kana, because she understands.) We're perverts, but that doesn't make us paedophiles. Our children love us.

Are Japanese women boring in bed? I'm certainly not - I have enough fetishes to write "The Encyclopaedia of Kimiko's Fetishes", and we do most of them at least once per month! I don't know if you can call me sexually experienced. I've only had 1 sexual partner, my husband, but we've done the dirty deed so many times I think I have more experience than most people. My friend Kana is also very good in bed, says her husband Ryo. (They got married on 1st August! )

I don't know if omorashi is a geeky thing, but I could be a dictionary definition of "geek", so it might be true. I don't "look nerdy", whatever that's supposed to mean (people say I'm extremely sexy and I don't wear glasses. Not that that's linked, girls wearing glasses can be really sexy.) But I work with computers for a job, and in my free time I like gaming, manga, anime and Magic: The Gathering! So I'm actually one of the geekiest girls in Japan, or maybe the world! Along with my friend Kana, she's just as geeky as me. I have Asperger syndrome, and that has links to both fetishes and geekiness, so there might be a link. I'll consult John, he knows a lot about these things.

A lot of geeks in Japan do fit the stereotype of an ugly man obsessed with things (including my friend Takeshi, who's still a single virgin, but a great friend). But I'm a geek who's married and a mother of 2, so that's not true all the time. Though maybe female geeks are more likely to find love, especially if, like me, they're lucky enough to be beautiful. It's so unfair that some women are prettier than others. I wish that all women could be beautiful, so they wouldn't be judged on it. When I go to my local nerd store (selling manga, MTG cards and things like that) loads of ugly men stare at me, because it's really weird to see a sexy lady in there. It feels horrible. One time one of them dropped some money, and as he crouched to pick it up he looked up my skirt! I squealed and called him a pervert, and everyone stared at him and he backed off in shame. It's kind of hypocritical, since I like gazing up ladies' skirts when I have the chance, but I don't make it that obvious!

I think I've gone on too long now! But that's what I have to say about being a geeky omorashi freak in Japan. I could write a lot more if you want, or John could. Actually, it would be good if he did, so you can see the male perspective, because that's different.

Wolfie can u elaborate a little more? And Isn't like lots of anime kinda pushing people in Japan to have sex more? I can't believe here in America that preteen pregnancy is higher than anywhere else!

Check this out, greengrub. This is what I was speaking of when I mentioned sexuality being fairly repressed in Japan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexuality_in_Japan#Decreasing_sexual_activity

I think a lot of the perceptions of Japan comes from Americans and other westerners access to the altered/fetishized aspects that ultimately reach us, rather than the realities of the nation.

I read that article (my English is getting really good now!). It really emphasises how lucky I am to have a very sexful marriage! (if that's a word. I don't care if it's not.) We have sex about 100 times per year - we would do it more often but we have young children so it's difficult, and we always try to make it really kinky! I suppose we're also unusual because we have male and female friends who happily mix together, and can talk really openly about sex. Though I think my openness comes from my Asperger syndrome when I don't really understand taboos. We might be having such a happy time now because we didn't get addicted to porn when we were younger. It can give you really unrealistic expectations of both sexes. Neither of us liked it or used it. There's a lot of porn around in Japan if you look for it, but there is anywhere. Even in Muslim countries there are stalls selling porn. I guess we're quite weird here for not liking porn, but we just find it stupid and slightly repulsive.

Thank you for the comments, Kimiko3. I want to make a question... you said you may consider yourself a Geek, but do you consider yourself a "Otaku"? Despite geek being considered a translation of Otaku, those terms carry completely different meanings in each society (in my country we even use the word otaku referring to "cool geeks", which is opposite from the Japanese meaning). Since my Japanese level is really basic all my close Japanese friends are different from most people here, maybe they are more like you I guess. In countries where English is not a common language (like Japan or my own country) usually people who can speak it are not a good measure of the "standard or society", they tend to be more educated and more experience (travel, reading, contact with foreigners). That's why my observations where mainly based at the people I work with or see at the University, with who I don't really talk to much because of the language barrier (yep, I'm ashamed of still not being able to speak Japanese).

But the fact that sexuality is repressed here is just like in America, I think. I mean... some things are more acceptable in America, like making sexual comments among a group of friends about someone who passes nearby. Both men and women do that, and in Japan first time I said something like "Wow, check that girl. She is hot!" my friends looked to me like I was some kind of rapist! At the same time porn is highly condemned in America. Most girl would tell they see porn only to her closest friends, while in Japan that is much more acceptable. The same about sexual toys. Those are really good things about Japanese society.

I have this (maybe wrong) idea about sexual fetishes that Europe is much more liberal than America or Asia. Can some European tell me? Is it ok to tell a friend that you have Omorashi fetish? I never told anyone personally, not even long term girlfriends. Just have this mental blockade about it.

And answering Wolfie, I think this idea the animes give that everybody is a little bit pervert is real. But because of the repression of sexuality here what they consider pervert may be normal for other societies. For example... I have a friend Japanese friend who when overheard me and other foreigners talking about Love Hotel said "oh! I never been to one, I want to go one day!" and right after said she felt like a pervert saying that... but it's a REALLY regular thing going to a hotel with more romantic decoration made for sexual encounters (it's clean and pretty, nothing dirty!). The same about kissing games... after playing those games that are considered kids stuff in most western countries you can hear 20 or even 25yo Japaneses saying how crazy was what they just did and how they feel naughty playing a kissing game. So... the hidden pervert inside most of them are not a S&M or a Omorashi fetishist.. it's just someone who appreciates sex and it's not ashamed of saying it. But it's changing, I think people are getting much more open to TALK about their sexuality; about exploring it they are already more open the in America, I think. Point to Japan! =)

Another question to Kimiko3 that I'm not brave enough to ask any Japanese personaly.
Have you ever heard of people peeing in Onsens? Please do not judge me, I understand the meaning of it and how the water should be kept clean. Also the warm water makes me sweat a lot, I really do not feel like peeing. But I've been to some rotenburos (both of them Konyoku 混浴) where the water just came from a natural fountain and went directly to a river or smal stream after passing trough the bath. So in that situation would Japaneses just pee there or still follow the onsen etiquete? By the way, sometimes they are in the middle of the woods, without any toilet nearby. That is something I never heard about here. Also wonder in regular Onsens when people are drunk if they still bother going to the toilet.

Jules, when you lived in the USA, did you live in the bible belt (or any particularly socially conservative area)? In more liberal parts of the country I have never heard any stigma against men who enjoy porn or women who use sex toys. Granted some stigmas still exist for men who use toys and women who enjoy porn...

America also seems to be relatively open to mild-moderate kink. Light BDSM has basically become completely mainstream. Just look at the popularity of 50 Shade of Gray

Since I don't know any people from America or Asia I can't tell if Europeans are more liberal. Generally talking about sex is pretty much acceptet even if you haven't known somebody for a long time. Personally I wouldn't feel uncomfortable by talking to such a person about for example which kind of girl I consider pretty, if I prefer small or big breasts even public hair could be considered an appropriate topic.

However, with fetishes it's a little different. Even my closest friends have no idea that I like omorashi. But this has much to do with the fact that anything pee related is taboo. It's not uncommon to tell a close friend about your sexual life in detail. That's why I have friends of which I know that they are in to certain fetishes and honestly, I think that some of them are pretty much accepted, and that it is even considered a good thing to be a little kinky because those people are regarded especially open minded.

*slowly raises hand*

*blushes bright red*

*John wonders what the fuck I'm doing*

I have relieved myself in an onsen before. The warm water made me need to pee and I thought no one would notice, so... My friend Kana was in there with me. I don't know if she peed in there, but I like to think she did!

I'm sure lots of men do it - I know my friend Takahiro does. John thinks it's disgusting because other people have to share. Luckily onsen are single-sex mostly so I don't share with him. He says that if he ever catches me he'll say very loudly, "Kimiko! Stop peeing!" I think I'd cry if I was humiliated like that.

I don't call myself "otaku", because that doesn't mean "geek" in a good way. It means someone who's unattractive, creepy and obsessed with something (like trains). I am obsessed with computers and gaming, but I put my obsession to good use in my job, and I know that I'm not unattractive and creepy, because then I wouldn't be married and people wouldn't tell me how beautiful and kind I am. We joke about our friend Takahiro being "otaku", but even he's not really because he has a good social life with us. I don't know how that word has any positive meaning in America. If someone called me "otaku" I'd be very offended and deny it.

Neither of us has ever liked using porn - we just found it stupid and degrading to both sexes. John thinks that the abundance and acceptance of porn might be why so many Japanese have stagnant sex lives. Our friend Takahiro is very open about his porn use, but we all make fun of him for using it and not having a real girlfriend! (One joke we tell him is: "Hello, Takahiro. Do you have a new girlfriend? Does her name still end in .jpg?" ) So among our friends, it's not usual to watch porn, but I think it is in society generally.

I was quite sexually innocent before I met John (he's my only sexual partner ever  ), but I masturbated before that. Sometimes I took off my panties and put a game controller up my skirt while I was playing! So I wasn't that innocent even then. 6 years of kinky sex have now made me very dirty-minded. None of our friends are really prudish about it, though. I think it might be because we're all a little Aspie, even though I'm the only one who's actually diagnosed. People with Asperger syndrome don't get embarassed so easily and are more prone to talk about private things openly.

I have excellent English because of my British husband John (though I still have a really strong accent when I speak. All my ls and rs sound like ds. "Heddo!" ) and we've shared our knowledge with our friends. Annoyingly, John speaks 5.5 languages (learning a sixth), including fluent Japanese, and he barely has an accent at all. On the telephone I'd think he was Japanese. But he has a natural talent for languages, like I have a natural talent for working with computers.

oopsipeedmypants, sorry, when I was saying America I was talking about the continent (I'm from south america). I never lived in USA, but I've been to different places there and thought it is very similar to south america whenever it's about religion. It's also easy to get an idea about the culture trough the media mainly portraying North American themes.

Kimiko, thanks for your reply ^^
It's so hard to know anything about sexual preferences here. People don't talk a lot about their personal lives in Japan (even if it's not sex related). So I'm still not sure if Omorashi or fetishes in general are a Otaku thing or not (of course, non-otakus can have it too). Anyway... most people I see in the sex shops look pretty normal, a lot of them with their partners even. So I guess at least the most common fetishes are recurrent among regular people.
Not on the topic, but just a curiosity....I heard so much about John in the forum, but I always thought he was American. I guess because of the amount of Americans living in Japan.

You should have known that John was British by the British spellings he used and taught me.

We do talk very openly about personal lives and sex, but that's weird here. While I'm not an otaku (and I doubt that many otaku ever get to enjoy their fetishes with a loving partner like I do!) John says that there is a link between having fetishes and being geeky. He says that it's linked to having a greater imagination, which also extends to sex. So there is a link. We always go to the sex shop together - our whole relationship is based on confiding everything and trying to do the best for both of us. I sometimes have nightmares about the headteacher of our children's school seeing us leaving the sex shop and calling us perverts. I wish more people had fetishes, so they would understand that it's perfectly possible for people to be good parents and also enjoy BDSM and omorashi. But even then, social pressure might stop them from condoning it. It's sad really.  But at least I have lots of kinky sex, which makes me luckier than most married women.

I realized that this is also true in the country of China.  When I visited there, the people were more open about talking about bodily functions and apparently small children can squat down and pee pretty much where ever they want!  That was a bit of a shocker when I first saw it...

Public urination and defecation is far more common in countries with poor education and lack of sanitation, including large areas of China and India.

Does anyone know of any links to statistics to rates of urinary incontinence in Japan? While I realize the videos I watch are staged, some of the women I've seen give me the impression they actually have trouble holding. My own research so far has turned up nothing I could take to the bank.

Not sure what you mean. Sexually speaking, Japanese (and most east Asia) are very traditional themselves. I'm having a hard time thinking about any example of what is a sexual taboo in the Occident but not in Japan. Maybe pedophilia? Until last year being in possession of child pornography was not a crime in Japan.

This Japanese website has amazing incontinence panties.     In the U.S., most of the incontinence panties are exclusively geriatric products.    With this Japanese website you can find modern (non-geriatric) items.    Use the google translate - English to Japanese, if you want to search easier.  失禁   Really enjoyed reading Kimiko's stories :)    Unfortunately, my wife is not into this at all.      Wearing incontinence panties is the only compromise she will accept.    It begins and ends with this one compromise.
