  1. So, I have to ask… What is your opinion of the most British “French” person in science fiction, Jean-Luc Picard?
  2. I’m a fan of a lot of different science fiction, including Star Trek. My first Star Trek show was Voyager, and I will always enjoy it, even if other shows are better. I would have to say my favorite has been Deep Space Nine. Some of the Dominion War stories are truly fantastic. But even the sillier episodes like the TOS crossover, and the Roswell episode are fun. Out of the new stuff, I’ve enjoyed Strange New Worlds the most. It feels like a return to “smart” Star Trek after the more action-oriented JJ Abrams films. I’ve also been enjoying Lower Decks. It’s a slightly funnier take on Star Trek, but it still is recognizably Star Trek.
  3. Talk about a crappy photoshop job…
  4. Also, I forgot to mention one of my favorite things about Sky Captain. The trailer shamelessly uses the theme song of Stargate SG-1 as the “action and adventure” music. But as an SG-1 fan, I have to admit it is an appropriate choice.
  5. It was fun and goofy, with some interesting parodies of early 2000s American politicians made by Europeans who just didn’t care who they might offend. Plus I’ve always enjoyed implausible “Nazi Super-Science” as a cheesy plot device. That would have been fun. Indiana Jones style pulp adventures with a fighter pilot as the star.
  6. I’ve never heard anyone say “my teeth are floating” but I’ve definitely heard (and said) that “I have to pee so bad, my eyeballs are floating”. Also when something is incredibly scary (like skydiving, bungee jumping, etc) I’ve heard people say “If I did that, I’d need to bring an extra pair of pants.”
  7. This actually happened to me twice when I was younger. The first time, in the early 1990s, my grandmother got me a videotape of Filmation’s Ghostbusters (the one with the Gorilla) instead of The Real Ghostbusters. Needless to say, 6 year-old me was incredibly confused. Slightly more recently, my mother got me the DVD of the 1979 Captain America, instead of the MCU Captain America.
  8. An entire industry exists around creating “mock-busters” like Transmorphers. Many of them, are done as an obvious cash-grab based on more popular and well known movies. Snakes on a Train, The Di Vinci Treasure, Top Gunner, etc. The worst cases of this are when it’s a knock-off of a kids movie, designed to make a quick buck off of grandparents or other relatives that don’t know any better. So they accidentally buy something like Chop Kick Panda instead of Kung Fu Panda.
  9. While we’re talking about giant spiders, I have to give a shout-out to Big-Ass Spider. It’s basically a Giant Monster movie, but with the same level of ridiculousness as Sharknado.
  10. I remember hearing that from some of my film-geek friends. I believe that was supposed to be for the Nick Cage Superman movie that never got made.
  11. It’s a Will Smith action/comedy movie back when Will Smith was a rising star. He had just done Independence Day and Men In Black, and it had a similar vibe as MIB. The action and comedy are fun, even if some of the jokes and writing are a bit childish. The clockwork-punk and steampunk elements are also fun and cool. But the story is nonsense, and the cast has very little chemistry with each other.
  12. Honestly, I love a ton of bad movies. Wild Wild West has already been mentioned, but I love it. Wing Commander is another favorite of mine. It’s a cheesy, poorly-acted “Top Gun in Space”, but I love it. Possibly because I love the computer games it was based on. Iron Skies and it’s sequel. Moon Nazis? Lizard-People from the center of the Earth? Sign me up! They also tease a Soviet Mars Colony, but I don’t think they ever made the third movie. Sky Captain. It does a halfway decent job at trying to be a 1930s or 1940s era action adventure serial, but it couldn’t quite strike the right tone. It couldn’t decide if it was honoring or spoofing that style of cartoonish storytelling.
  13. I mean… she is the one performing this 3-hour concert with a set list of more than 40 songs. I doubt she gets much time for a bathroom break.
  14. Not that I saw. Most of the TikTok videos in the news articles show girls buying pull-ups of some sort. One got LivDry, which I don’t know anything about. And another had some kind of plain white tape-on diaper, but I couldn’t read the name on the package. She did say it was some kind of highly recommended and super-absorbent one based on an article she read. 🤷‍♂️
