It seems that the only way to do this, is to make a run for it. You’re not sure if you can make it through the front door without partially wetting yourself, but it’s worth a shot.

“It’s okay, Officer Miller,” you say. “Mistakes happen… I just have to get past it!”

She looks over at it and then back at you. “Are you going to make it through? These things suck…”

You feel another bladder spasm and you tighten your muscles up again. “I have to! There’s probably no time to find another way in!”

Going back to your earlier breathing exercises, you attempt to calm yourself, in an effort to mentally prepare for this obstacle. After the urgency subsides a little, you spring into action. Keeping one hand against your crotch, you make a run for it, heading straight for the front entrance, while trying to ignore the fountain. Sydney and Officer Miller follow you, all the way to the front steps.

You begin to ascend, but another spasm rocks your bladder, forcing you to stop in your tracks. You grab onto a railing to support yourself and clench your holding muscles. “Come on… I’m almost there…”

Sydney puts an arm around you. “It’s only a few steps, Zanthia, you can do it.”

You look up at the front door. It’s so close, yet so far. You force yourself to take another step, but a spurt escapes past your defenses. You feel it flow through your urethra and escape into your panties.

You put your other hand down there as well and cross your legs. “No! I’m leaking!”

Officer Miller goes up ahead of you and smiles at you. “Sydney’s right. You can make it!”

Their reassuring statements help to boost your confidence a little. You stare at the front door, just a few steps up, as you fight to regain your composure.

They are right, you tell yourself. It’s not that far. I can do this! I have to!

With a renewed sense of confidence, you push through the desperation and continue on. You do your best to focus on the task at hand, while ignoring the trickling water behind you. You grab the door handle, pull it open, and the three of you rush inside. Once you’re in, it slams shut behind you, blocking out the sound coming from the fountain, helping you to feel a little more at ease.

You inspect the damage and you are glad that none of it made it through your underwear, to your jeans. Wow, that couldn’t have gone any better!

You look around at your surroundings and you find yourself in another lobby. There is a wooden service desk up ahead of you, where you see a male citizen, who’s wearing a red t-shirt and jeans, leaning over it, pee dancing, and grabbing himself through the front of his pants. Leather chairs line the seating area, with paintings of oceans, lakes, and rivers hanging from the walls above them. The carpet on the floor is grey, with wavy, red and blue lines running across it.

Officer Miller leads the way up to the front desk, where the desperate guy is in the middle of an intense conversation with the male secretary. “I need to see Genevieve! I-I’m on my last strike and I don’t want to wear the belt again!”

Could he be referring to the catheter belt? You wonder. How many times has he had to wear it?

The guy behind the desk is wearing business casual attire; he has a blue shirt with buttons on the front, a tie hanging over it, and khakis. He looks quite nervous as you approach and he quickly glances at you, before continuing the discussion. “I’m sorry, but she is out of the office right now, with another client.”

The guy in the red shirt glances at you briefly and then looks back at the guy behind the counter. “Who can I see then?!”

While you wait, you press your legs together and wiggle your hips. On the wall behind the secretary, you notice a surveillance camera pointing at you. It’s the first one you’ve seen, but you figure that it is because you haven’t been paying much attention. Below it is the entrance to a short, narrow hallway, with offices on both sides, all the way down the full length of it. At the far end, there is another door, which you assume is probably the back entrance.

The guy behind the counter hands the other guest a sheet of paper. “Here is a list of all of the lawyers we have. You can take your pick, if you want…”

Rather than grabbing the paper, the other guy grabs onto the desk with one hand while holding himself with the other. “I can’t take this anymore… I can’t!”

The secretary suddenly looks terrified. “Sir, if you could just step outside-”

You, Sydney, and Officer Miller can only watch in horror, as the poor guy in need of a lawyer doubles over and groans. It seems obvious that his grip is the only thing keeping all of his pee contained.

If his hand slips, you realize. He’s going to…

The thought of what is about to happen to him, triggers a bladder spasm inside of your body. You press a hand against yourself and gasp. Don’t think about it, Zanthia! Don’t think about it!

Unfortunately, the disaster that you are expecting begins to unfold directly in front of you. He turns and tries to run past you, back towards the front door. Along the way, he stops and freezes in the middle of the lobby, before releasing his grip. He moans as he floods his jeans, shoes, and the carpet below.

Trying to ignore the scene that is taking place, you step up to the desk and glance at the list, while performing a pee dance. I have to see who the lawyers are! I don’t want to get in trouble like that guy and have to wear the belt…

As you look down at the list of names, you can’t help but feel bad for him. He has no pin and everything Lisa told you, about Penelope’s favorite torture device, is still very fresh in your mind. You also notice that the name at the very bottom, the seventh lawyer, has been scribbled out, leaving you with only six to choose from.

Did that lawyer get fired? You wonder. That is strange!

While you’re thinking about it, Officer Miller steps up beside you and asks, “How busy is Genevieve? It’s Zanthia’s first day here and she’s in trouble already. I know she is willing to help newcomers, if she isn’t too busy. Can you get ahold of her?”

The secretary frowns and glances back and forth between you and the cop. “I’ll see what I can do.”

As you continue looking down at the list, you figure that the ones with the best track records, would be the ones you would want to have represent you. The only issue is, you’re not even sure which ones are available, right this instant. The only one that you know for sure is not available, is Genevieve. If the secretary can contact her, then she might be willing to help, if her workload isn’t too overwhelming, but with your legal status on the line, you’re not sure if you are willing to bet on it.

You also consider helping the guy who just wet himself. Even though you don’t know him, you hate the thought of what it must be like, to wear Penelope’s catheter belt.

Which lawyer would you like to choose?

1) Genevieve Briarwood (availability pending) – Cases won: 22; Cases tried: 25

2) Philip Wright – Cases won: 19; Cases tried: 24

3) Phoebe – Cases won: 17; Cases tried: 23

4) Jeremiah – Cases won: 15; Cases tried: 21

5) Karen – Cases won: 8; Cases tried: 18

6) Wes – Cases won: 1; Cases tried: 11

7) Ask why that last name is scribbled out, before choosing between options 1 – 6.

Do you try to help the guy who just wet himself? If so, then how?

1) Yes – Accept his last strike on your record.

2) Yes – Ask if both of you can have the same lawyer and go to the same trial.

3) Yes – Suggest an alternative solution.

4) No – You have no idea who that guy is, so he’ll have to figure things out for himself.

As bad as you feel for the guy, you simply don’t have the time to deal with his problems, on top of your own, so you decide not to help him. For the lawyer situation, you briefly consider going with either Phoebe or Jeremiah, since you think that they are the most likely to be available, without the risk of totally screwing up your trial. Ultimately, your instinct tells you that it is best to go with one of the two at the top, for the best results.

Since Genevieve might be too busy, then I think I should go with Philip Wright, you think. But if she is able to help me, then I would much rather have her as a lawyer.

Now that you have made your decision, you say to the secretary, “If Genevieve isn’t able to help right now, then I choose Philip Wright. But if she says she can help… then I want her instead.”

Behind you, the guy who has just wet himself turns back towards the service counter and comes up to you, now looking very angry. “Hey, I came in here before you, so you don’t get to choose whatever lawyer you want, before I do!”

Suddenly feeling terrified, you glance at him as he sticks a finger in your face. “I don’t give a shit if you’re new here, you-”

Officer Miller grabs his wrist and forces him to lower his arm, while returning his angry stare. “Back off, buddy! You were new here once, so you should remember what it’s like.”

His expression softens a little, but he is still quite upset. “I just don’t want to wear that damn belt again!”

“Okay,” Officer Miller says. “You take Genevieve when you can, since she’s probably too busy to help us right now, anyway. We’ll go with Phil, since Zanthia has decided on whichever of the two is available.”

At last, the cop lets him go and he backs off. “That works, I guess.”

Still under Miller’s gaze, he is given a stern warning. “If you get up in Zanthia’s face again, Penelope’s Cath-Belt will be the least of your problems!”

The guy’s anger vanishes entirely, as it is overtaken by the fear of what your DEO might do to him, if he starts trouble with you again. He takes a few steps back and then walks over to one of the chairs, with his shoes squishing along the way. He decides to stand, rather than sit, however, to avoid getting the furniture wet.

You feel another bladder spasm, so you force yourself to look away while you bend slightly at the waist. I don’t know what might have happened, if Officer Miller had not been here! It’s probably a good idea not to think about it…

Officer Miller transfers the bottles of tea she is holding, from one arm to the other, and looks down at the secretary. “So, is Phil around? I think we should let that guy, have Gen.”

“Yeah, he is here,” he replies. “He currently has a client with him in his office, but I think he will still be able to help you.”

You feel relieved. “That’s good! When can we see him?”

Officer Miller gives you a surprised look, but says nothing, as you take charge of your situation, once again. Luckily, the secretary says you can see him now and asks you to follow him back.

Sydney gives you a relieved smile. “Well, maybe we will be able to stay out of trouble around here, after all!”

The secretary gets up from behind the desk and leads the three of you down the hall, past some of the offices. Next to each of the doorways, you see the names of the lawyers on the walls. Trying to take your mind off of your desperation, you read them as you pass.

Karen and Phoebe, you read, as you come to the first two offices. You see that Karen is alone in her office, but Phoebe has a client, with a cop there to accompany them.

Up next, you come to a couple without clients. Wes and Jeremiah…

Not long after those ones, you come across two offices that have their doors shut and locked, with the blinds closed over the windows. Genevieve and… Hmm, the name has been removed. That must be the lawyer who had their name scribbled out on the sheet!

Up next, you come across two more offices. One has the door wide open and the other has it locked. The latter of the two has a sign next to it that says “Administration”, but the former, is Philip Wright’s office. Beyond those, are storage rooms, between you and the back exit.

Just as you were told, he does indeed have a male client, who is sitting in a chair, with their hands cuffed behind their back. Two cops stand on either side of the suspect, while he and the lawyer discuss things quietly.

I wonder what he got in trouble for, you think, as you step inside.

When you see your lawyer for the first time, you realize that he does have some wild hair. It’s brown and looks like it hasn’t been combed in several days, with multiple strands pointing out in different directions and some drooping down over his face, but yet, it looks clean. He is dressed in the same attire as the secretary, but without a tie. He has a young face and looks to be just a few years older than you.

His unprofessional appearance is slightly off putting, but you’re still glad that he can help. He’s not exactly Phoenix Wright… But close enough!

The cops step aside, so that you and the secretary can enter. Sydney and Officer Miller wait out in the hall, since the room is a bit crowded.

Philip smiles at the two of you as you come in. “Dee! I see you have another one for me!”

“Call me Dave,” the secretary says, suddenly sounding annoyed.

Ignoring his request, the lawyer looks at you and motions for you to come up to the desk. “I haven’t seen you before, so you must be new here!”

You look around nervously at the cops and the guy in the chair, before giving your reply. “Y-yes… I’m Zanthia.”

Philip stands up and looks at the most senior ranked officer in the room. “If you don’t mind, I will step out for just one minute. Thanks for bringing her in, Dee!”

The two cops do seem a little annoyed, but neither of them object to Philip stepping out to speak with you. Both you and Dave return to the hall with him and then he has you and your companions step aside, so that you can privately discuss the situation.

As the secretary returns to his desk, to continue helping the guy in the red t-shirt, Philip becomes serious. “So, what seems to be the trouble, Officer Em?”

You find the way that he abbreviates everyone’s name like that, quite strange. He sure has some unusual nicknames for people…

Officer Miller gives him a friendly smile, just before she explains everything that happened. She tells him about Sydney’s incident with the pot (causing your friend to blush), her accident in the grass, and the results of your inspection.

Philip’s eyes open wide. “Dayum!”

He looks at you. “You have guts, newbie!”

Officer Miller then explains that your time is limited, “We don’t know when Penelope will call us in, but when it happens, she will need a lawyer, right then!”

Philip clicks his tongue. “Well, I’m almost finished with this client. He’s in trouble for a lot worse than Zanthia is… Just give me like… two minutes!”

He goes back inside the office again, leaving you out in the hall with Sydney and Officer Miller. You are definitely hoping that he can get his business wrapped up with the other client soon, so that he can help keep you out of trouble.

“Hopefully two minutes won’t be too long,” Sydney says. “What if Penelope says she wants us right now? We’ll have to hurry back to the apartment without him!”

Officer Miller smiles at her. “If that happens, I’ll stick my head in and let him know what’s happening. I can guarantee that he’ll meet us there, if we have to take off suddenly. Also, don’t worry about paying him for this. I’ll take care of it later tonight.”

Pay him? You wonder. With what? What kind of currency do we use around here?

Suddenly, a surprised look appears on the cop’s face. “Oh, I forgot to mention one more thing. Around here, we use Flowing Creek currency, to pay for public services. I don’t have any money on me right now, so I will have to grab some when I get the chance.”

I wonder if that is why people have jobs in Flowing Creek, you think. Maybe it’s to help them earn money for those things. I wonder if people have to pay to use the bathrooms at the Octagon…

For the next couple of minutes, the three of you wait, until finally, the two cops and their suspect exit the office. Now Philip Wright is all yours.

“Alright, I’m all done!” he exclaims, as he joins you in the hall, once again. “If you need a lawyer, then I’m your man!”

Just then, Officer Miller’s radio comes to life and it’s Sergeant Hilltop on the other end. “She’s ready for you. Get your asses back to the duplex, ASAP!”

When the radio goes silent, Officer Miller gives you and your new lawyer a fearful expression. “And not a moment too soon!”

Shit, now there’s probably no time for the bathroom! You realize. I guess I’ll just have to hold it!

You also realize that you have another major problem. You still have no idea what your defense is going to be. You’re not sure if there are going to be witnesses to interrogate, or anything. There is simply not enough time to prepare for this.

Clearly, Philip feels the same, but he seems enthusiastic, as he comes up with a solution. “Well, that puts the pressure on us. I guess when we go in, I’ll just have to wing it!”

You think back to earlier, when you were told that honesty and being new in town might help, but you are not sure if that will be enough to keep you out of trouble. Hopefully whatever Philip comes up with, will work.

“Alright, let’s go out the back way,” he suggests. “There is no fountain and I have a police escort out there, who can get us to your pad in no time! Just let me lock up the office, first.”

He shuts off the light and locks the door, before leading the way past the storage rooms and out to the back parking area. Sure enough, there is another cop car, with a female officer leaning against it, with her hands in her pockets. She’s a bit small for a cop, but you have a feeling that she is probably tougher than she looks. She is just a little shorter than you are, has a lanky body type like yours, and shoulder-length, dark purple hair. You notice that she is not wearing the golden pin, so that is a comforting sight.

Once outside, Officer Miller hands both you and Sydney the tea. “Well, you had better drink these before we go see the mayor. Sarge’s orders…”

You cross your legs and grab your bottle with one hand. You look down at it, almost as if it’s poison, fearing the desperation you will likely experience after drinking it. You look down at your other hand, suddenly realizing that you’re no longer carrying an empty water bottle.

Where did that go? You wonder. Maybe I dropped it while I was pee dancing on the front steps? How did I-

Philip’s police escort clears her throat, disrupting your thoughts, and crosses her legs quickly. “Can we get going now? We’ve all got shit to do!”

Realizing that you had better get into the car quickly, you hurry over to it, suddenly wondering why she can’t just take you to the Octagon. It seems unnecessary to go all the way back to the apartment, just to have Officer Harris take you, but maybe there is a reason behind it that you are unaware of.

Since you still have a few questions you would like to ask before you go to see Penelope, it might be a good idea to ask a couple, to help yourself feel a little more at ease about the trial. Which ones (if any) do you ask? You may ask up to two questions if you choose to do so, or you can choose not to ask any.

1) Ask why this cop can’t just take you to the Octagon, right this minute, instead of Harris.

2) Ask about how being new in town can help you.

3) Ask about how being honest about your unlawful behavior can help you.

4) Ask if there will be any witnesses to interrogate, at the trial.

5) Ask about how this trial is, “different from anything you’ve ever seen”.

6) Don’t ask about anything and trust that you’re in capable hands.

Thanks. I'm glad to be back too. It's great to see how much this story has progressed while I was gone. It took me a while to catch up, but it was totally worth it.
