About This File

Plot Outline

While enjoying a field trip, five ordinary students suddenly find themselves stranded in an unfamiliar world. But it soon turns out that they might not be quite as ordinary as they thought!

You play as Reguma, schoolboy and RPG expert, as he leads his four cute schoolgirl classmates through a grand adventure in a fantastical realm, battling against demon hoards and fulfilling an ancient prophecy. But facing long treks, exhausting fights and sticky situations, will these girls be able to keep their underwear dry?

My Game Won't Work!

PLEASE READ. You may see an error like this:

error.jpg.21698dbb685ab0cccee0234338e0a8ea.jpg

If so, please follow the instructions below to allow Japanese games to be supported on a non-Japanese Windows PC. Not following these steps is the cause of many error messages encountered when trying to play this game.

locale.thumb.png.77ecd5a288e7ea260392bcb003d59717.png

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel and go to the Clock and Region section
  2. Click on the Region link
  3. Switch to the Administrative tab
  4. Click on Change system locale...
  5. Open the Current system locale drop down and select Japanese (Japan)
  6. Click OK on the open dialogs, then restart your system

There has also been plenty of discussion around technical issues in this file's comments section already, so please search around before asking.

I just wanna mention how awesome the new battle theme is. It's just so friggin good! I'm surprised I'm not seeing more people talk about it.

I mean, it's not exactly new at this point ;P

But anyone who didn't play the japanese release hasn't experienced it before, and it sure is a jam.

That's true. I never played the Japanese version, so it's completely new to me. I actually forgot how long the untranslated version has been out. So, my bad there.

Hi. I'm also having the problem where the game window won't open without even a popup. I've had Japanese locale set and rebooted before both extracting and running the game.

Hi everyone, bit of a particular situation here. Due to technical and privacy limitations, I can only browse/play this site on my Android phone. And, surprisingly, Mojique works! Sort of. Neko RPGXP player from the Play Store is actually capable of playing the old 0.4.2 English demo (albeit with a couple graphical errors). But, despite that, this most current version does not work.

Following suggestions in these comments, I learned how to unlock my phone to run a locale emulator app, which allowed me to successfully extract the full zip file. Now, even with the locale emulator off, I can see all the pictures and look through the audio and other files, so I know it's all accessible. But Neko doesn't pick this version up at all, no appearance in the game selection menu.

*By the way, I'm not specifically asking for specific help with the app, so don't worry lol*

I've tried separating the two Mojique version folders to make sure there was no interference, I've tried running Neko with the locale emulator on as well as changing my phone's default language to Japanese, but still no good. But, with my phone being able to browse and edit files within the game folder, it doesn't seem that the game itself is locale-locked anymore, at least, it doesn't appear to be.

So, does this issue seem fairly basic to anyone? I have some experience with coding so I could probably make necessary changes if anyone can suggest any. My next attempt will be to copy the old demo's folder and move the current version's data and folders and things over but maybe leave the initial game EXE and info file? I'm just gonna poke around to see what works. Perhaps I may just have to wait until the game is fully translated and some sort of non-location-specific version is made?

Anyway I love the demo so far, and everyone is doing great work getting it all translated and up to date! *Sorry for the long post*

Success! Curiously and tentatively so, but still. The current version of Mojikue works on mobile!

Forsome reason the first time I extracted the zip file (with the locale emulator on Japanese), it only exported about 2/3 of everything. The second extraction went fine, but the game still didn't appear in Neko RPGXP's list, until I found a strange fix. I removed the Game.ini file from the folder and replaced it with the same file from the old Demo E version, and now it works fine (although I'm constantly paranoid while playing lol). I don't quite understand how that worked, with how little info actually appeared whenever I opened said .ini file, but hey if it works it works. It even runs overall faster than the Demo version. The only other fixes needed were to edit quite a few of the images in the Pictures folder, because some of them have changed from transparent to black-background. (Side note: the "tears" overlays look borderline horrifying when that's all that appears, like little beady eyes). So I'm currently editing images with the Background Eraser app (easiest way to do it), and had already updated a number of images from the Demo E version. I also had to change Neko's second button setting from S to Shift to get the party interaction/sort inventory button working.

But other than those little fixes, as of right now, Mojikue in it's most current form is playable on Android mobile devices with GameBoy-esque peripherals! If that concept is interesting enough maybe I could give a full walkthrough of it, but I'm just glad to finally be able to enjoy the full(est) game.

I've actually looked into this and found that one cause could be characters in the full path that aren't compatible with the locale encoding.

Spoiler

Basically, modern versions of Windows use UTF-16 for their filesystem encoding, but this game uses legacy functions that take and return strings with locale-specific encoding. This encoding will be ANSI for English-US and Shift-JIS for Japanese-JP. What happens is the program tries to get the full path to its location so it can read the Game.ini file. But if the path contains characters that can't be converted into the locale-specific encoding, the program will fail to find the Game.ini file and stop execution. Since this game also contains images with Japanese names, using Shift-JIS is a requirement for loading to the title screen in this particular case. Therefore, the full path to Game.exe MUST be compatible with Shift-JIS.

What you have to do is make sure the entire path (from C:\ down) to Game.exe is compatible with Shift-JIS. This for the most part means ASCII + limited Japanese characters. You also must run the game in Japanese either with a locale emulator or by changing for the whole system.

Ah, that was what was wrong. The path had non-ASCII characters in it. It's working now. Thanks!

I also want to point out I discovered this game recently, from a YouTuber by the name of Sean Shanley, the author of the video posted in a comment a few might have read, in case you haven't seen his content, it is . . . well, decent in terms of quality.

A third thing I must point out, a while ago in August, I tried to download the translated demo, ya know, that ended right after Hime's Omorashi scene on the ship, but when I tried to open it, all I got was a popup ad saying my WinZip trial has expired, can anybody explain this to me so nothing like that happens again when I hopefully can download this awesome project.

You'll just need another program to unzip the download file. 7Zip is a popular free one, you'll likely still need the locale emulation mentioned above to open it though. (Although some unzip programs and file managers allow you to select the zip file's encoding and extract them without a locale, but I've never checked 7Zip for this feature.)

Alright, I have 7Zip installed on my computer, I did notice however that the already downloaded Mojique file was linked to WinZip, the problem that was reoccurring, turns out I had a free trial when I got this computer a while back, I have seen videos on how to unzip files using this software, and I followed the steps, but I didn't see 7Zip when I Rclicked on the file, just WinZip, *sigh* another setback.
