About This File

Description:

And finally I have deigned to post something with an story of my own authory after a couple of years lurking. Here, I present you The Twelve Fanatics (which is the eh-"sequel" of another game I'm working on, called The Twelve Relics which was originally a novel I wrote years ago).

Synopsis:

In this world, a catastrophe repeats every 7000 years eradicating most human, animal and monster live forms in it; and, as one would expect, the survivors bring the world back to its course in time. During this one cycle, humans were given twelve powerful artifacts known as the Item Regalias, and based on them, twelve nations were founded.

After some prosperous years, difficulties arised and I'm not really going to tell you my other game's whole story but these items cause a war between the nations. At first, it's just a cold war, but eventually unchains something bigger. This game takes part after that war ends, after almost 2,000 years, when the nations were starting to work back on communicating between eachother and establishing peaceful terms once again. Nevertheless, there's still people in pro for the war and thirsty for power out there who would do anything to bring the chaos back...

Now, eight years after the big war ended, we find ourselves in the shoes of Solveig: an eighteen year old apprentice knight who wants to make her country and her world a better place to live in; but little she knew she was about to get in something bigger than what she could have ever imagined.

Playstyle:

Pretty much your regular RPG created with RPGVXA using some of Yanfly's engines to make it smoother. Battles are held between turns, as expected, with some explanations required that will be done ingame.

[Things to notice: Skill Mastery system and Magic Level system, both will be explained ingame]

Enjoy!

What's New in Version 2.3.0   See changelog

Released

Main Update:

  • Introduction to free exploration (new features such as Teleportation, Sub Quest and Diuretic count systems have been implemented).

Major Changes:

  • Skill Cooldowns, Phase 2: A vast majority of Special Skills now has a preparation time in turns. Preparation for each skill varies.
  • Normalization: All enemies (including boss monsters) now deal less damage than before; relation between Attack/Magic against Defense/Magic Defense stays the same.
  • Normalization 2: All monsters are now unable to evade Attacks or Spells. All monsters' accuracy has been normalized to a base of 80 (+ status increase based on the Hit formula).
  • Normalization 3: Boss Monsters are now highly resistant against general status debuffs (Attack, Defense, ...)
  • Element Revamp:  Monsters are now assosiated to a certain elemental affinity or mixture of elemental affinities (max. two), each having specific weaknesses and resistances. For more information, a Beta spreadsheet has been included together with this update (it is still incomplete in some aspects). Note that each monster can not have a combination of two different basic elemental affinities (Fire and Water/Wind/Earth at the same time, for example) nor two different Secondary elemental affinities (Dark and Holy/Ghost/Shadow at the same time, for example). However, monsters can have a "double" affinity such as Fire II - OR a mixture of a basic elemental affinity and a secondary elemental affinity, such as Dark Fire; in the Beta Spreadsheet, damage multipliers for elemental weaknesses and resistances are sepparated with a "~"; the value to the left applies for "single" affinities while the value to the right applies for "double" affinities.
  • Map: Catacombs has been slightly modified to make it easier to avoid some monster battles.
  • Map: Amount of enemy events in the Catacombs has been slightly reduced and some have been moved from their initial position.
  • Map: Added a bathroom inside the castle in Kriemhild
  • Status: Envenom status is automatically healed without penalties after a battle ends.
  • Status: Envenom damage per turn reduced from 10% to 8%
  • Status: Envenom status does not stack with Poison status anymore (becoming Envenomed automatically nullifies Poison status, and cannot be Poisoned while Envenomed).
  • Status: All special statuses as well as status buffs and debuffs now have a number that indicates the remaining time in turns.
  • Status: Buff bonuses have been reduced to 10% from 25% per stack.
  • Status: Buffs now stack up to 7 times instead of 2 times (MAX 70% bonus instead of MAX 50% bonus).
  • Event: An Option to skip generic peeing events has been added.
  • Event: Fixed Hecate's first peeing scene being able to be repeated endlessly.
  • Event: Fixed Wind Crystal's "not able to use" message during the Dark Cathedral event.
  • Event: Fixed Quest Sheet item information being inaccurate.
  • Skill: V-Slash's base power changed from 200% to 250%
  • Skill: Reinforce skill's MP cost increased to 40 and reinforcement status condition lasts only for the turn the skill is used, as well as an additional Buff to Attack and Defense is added that lasts 5 turns instead.
  • Skill/Status: Reinforce status changed so that it does not increase physical attack or defense anymore but decrease damage received depending on Skill Mastery:
    E Rank: 15% damage reduction.
    D Rank: 20% damage reduction.
    C Rank: 25% damage reduction.
    B Rank: 30% damage reduction.
    A Rank: 35% damage reduction.
    S Rank: 40% damage reduction.
EX Rank: 50% damage reduction and an additional buff cast for attack and defense.
  • Skill: Ice Cut skill Attack base increased from 400% to 500% and Magical base increased from 200% to 300%.
  • Skill: Level 2 Magic Spell Will-O-Wisp's power increased from 500% to 600%.
  • Skill: Level 2 Magic Spell Poizn has now double the chance to poison targets and a 30% additional chance to
    envenom.
  • Skill: Level 3 Magic Spell Phantom Lightning's power increased from 750% to 1000%, and its HP cost increased from 60 to 100.
  • Skill: Rapid Strafe's power per hit changed from 125% to 133%
  • Skill: Flaming Arrow Skill Attack base power changed from 350% to 400% and Magical base power changed from 150% to 300%.
  • Skill: Freezing Arrow Skill Magical base power changed from 150% to 400%.

Stun chance increased from 33% to 75%.

Even though i'm not that far into the game as of writing this, i can already tell this has a LOT of potential! However, for how little progress i made in this game there were quite a few issues that caught my eye:

Character Sprites

a few of the character's dialogue sprites seem like they could use a little work. Not necessarily main characters like Solveig or Lily, but rather side characters like Colonel Rilhenna and King Marhald. They just seem a little pixelated is all. (Well that, and the fact that they have a coloured border around them)

Desperation Scenes

i don't know if there's more scenes affected by this issue, but in Solveig's introduction when you lose to the giant spider while desperate the desperation scene cuts off early, please fix this.

Lily Spirit...?

when visiting the castle courtyard for the first time, there's a bathroom right next to the castle wall. If you read the sign next to it, sometimes Lily will talk instead of Solveig

Spelling Errors

i know this has been mentioned before, but there's quite a few typos within dialogues. I'm pretty sure you'll get to this eventually but i just wanted to remind you.

Overall, even though there is a few problems with this game, it's still AMAZING! I hope that you will continue to work on this project to the very end!

This review was written during the 2.4.0 build of the game.

The Twelve Fanatics (I will be using 12Fanatics for short) is a omorashi RPGVX game created by omorashi.org user @Hikewne. In this short review, I will discuss a few key gameplay and omorashi features, and end the review with a few closing words about what makes this game disctinct from other, similar games.

Notable gameplay features

Non-random Random encounters
Much like the old SNES classic, Chrono Trigger, 12Fanatics ditches the random encounter system and instead has the enemies run around in the game world where they can be avoided by the player. This adds a few interesting aspects to the gameplay, where the player has the opportunity to dodge enemies they don't want to fight. It's hardly a revolutionary system, and at times it can feel a little choppy, but it's a very welcome change of pace compared to the rampant random encounters in most omorashi RPGs.

Magic
The magic system in this game is reminiscent of leveling up in Runescape, if anyone still remebers that game. Instead of magic being tied to character level, you level up different elements by using spells of that element. Unlocking character-specific spells can be particularily fun.

There are obviously a number of other gameplay features, but those to are the ones that I consider to be the most notable.

Notable Omorashi features

Desperation system
Like many other similar games, 12Fanatics features a system where characters' bladders fill up over time, eventually making them have to pee. The system is very similar to that of Mojique, where characters have to drink to restore health. The characters banter as their bladders fill up with different interactions based on how badly everyone needs to pee, which is neat.

Pee Quests
Also similar to Mojique, there are certain quests which feature NPCs in need of a toilet. These are only unlocked later in the game story, however.

In conclusion

The systems I described earlier are hardly new for RPGs. However, 12Fanatics features a number of systems that are unique to omorashi RPGs, which is very, very welcome. 12Fanatics is, as far as omorashi games go, one of the greats. In terms of feature and content-amount, I would consider it to be the second best. (With the very best being the complete version of Mojique, a game that probably wouldn't look out of place on steam, if not for the omo aspect)

@Hikewne is also quite active in listening to feedback, and the game is still being worked on right now.

First and foremost, I'm in a sort of unique position as a reviewer as someone who followed this closely as a player then helped with its development for over half a year, and then ceased to have any affiliation with the project once again. So, last year, when I wrote a similar review, it was more about hope and potential, than about actual content. Much have changed since then.

This game is similar to Mojique, Aquarius or HareAme - essentially an omorashi RPG, where we have a party of several girls, embarked on a great adventure. What makes 12Fanatics stand out is that its RPG aspect is pretty rich and developed - elements system with different weaknesses and resistances, weapon enchanting, monster cards, lots of optional dungeons, great loot hidden around the world - all of that makes it a solid RPG rather than just a platform for omo content.

Fetish content is delivered through plot sequences, side quests and desperation system. The former, especially most of the girls' introduction scenes is among the greatest stuff I've ever experienced in an omoge. Side scenes are rather small and tend to exploit a few repetetitve concepts, but are nice as well. And desperation system is a large sandbox to play with - especially with the presence of thing like desperation-related dialogue and diuretics.

The game is not without its flaws, however. Some puzzles are counter-intuitive and generally feel more complex than they should be in a game like this. The game's strong side - it being a solid RPG - sometimes becomes its greatest frustration as it feels like RPG first and foremost and fetish content some sort of reward for beating said content. I.e. you are forced to grind, farm stuff, min max your party if you wish to experience all fetish content it has to offer. All this shows well at the game's weakest part so far - Hecate's introduction scene, where a superb scene concept is ruined by prolonged fighting and puzzle solving to the point the scene itself ceases to feel realistic.

While some people may be perfectly fine with that, it may frustrate ones who came here for an omoge first and foremost and are generally more fond of games like Shikkin series or Melissa Explains It All. That is the reason why, although I personally consider 12Fanatics as one of the best omorashi RPGs out there I have to deduct one star from the game's rating. Have a nice day!
